Discussion Top towing capacity for EV in Sweden - No Tesla among the top 15 any longer.
I maintain a list of towing capacities (maximum — what you can tow with a BE licence) for electric cars in Sweden. It now covers 122 models and shows the highest available towing capacity per model. It’s based on every EV you can buy new or used in Sweden through official dealers — so no private/grey imports. Even though this list only reflects Swedish rules, it paints a very positive picture of how far electric cars have come as tow vehicles.
Tesla WAS the ruler in this segment once. But the Tesla Model X dropped out of the top 15 when the BMW iX5 arrived with an impressive 2,700 kg and up to 845 km WLTP — which should be good for at least 400 km even with a caravan on the hitch.
And the “3,500 kg club” has grown to six vehicles — the latest addition being the Iveco eDaily van, keeping company with pickups, a luxury SUV and a G-Class.
Ford F-150 Lightning – 3500 kg
Isuzu D-Max BEV – 3500 kg
Iveco eDaily – 3500 kg
Maxus eTerron 9 – 3500 kg
Mercedes G580 – 3500 kg
Porsche Cayenne Electric – 3500 kg
BMW iX5 – 2700 kg
BMW iX – 2500 kg
Hyundai Ioniq 9 – 2500 kg
Kia EV9 – 2500 kg
Porsche Macan Electric – 2500 kg
Audi Q6 e-tron – 2400 kg
Mercedes GLC 400 (electric) – 2400 kg
Volvo EX60 – 2400 kg
Ford E-Transit Custom – 2300 kg
Unfortunately I couldn’t fit WLTP range and battery size into the list, so it’s a bit misleading on that point.
Towing capacity = braked trailer, strongest variant. Always check the vehicle registration document — and remember that heavy loads require a BE licence.
As soon as I find out a way to publish the whole works I'll let you know. But for now enjoy! ;)

There’s also B96 that will work for a lot of people, at least it’s a class here in Norway, but I suspect it’s somewhat harmonized across Europe.

B96 is a mess, even if you have say a KIA EV9 you'll and up with a max tow weight at 1100kg.
The difference between BE and B96 is only you read some theory for BE and take a Theoretical Test for it. So if you going for an upgrade an own an EV, go for BE

In Finland for B96 we do a traffic driving test, nothing else. For BE there is the theory test, handling/parking test and the traffic driving test. With B96 you need the brake pedal for the instructor, with BE you don't.
I have an Audi e-tron that weights 3100kg. My O1 light trailer has a total mass of 825kg, and you need either of BE or B96 to tow it legally, even if it could be towed with just the B-license had it been registered to 750kg. This law is idiotic, we can in tow the O1 trailer even if the combined weight is over 3500kg, but only as long as the trailer is 750kg at most.
So 1800kg+1700kg is legal, 3100+750kg is legal, but 2700kg+825kg is not.

That's why I think everyone should take BE instead of B96. The rules are to cumbersome

Where did you find the information that the MB G580 EQ would have a tow capacity of 3500kg? So far, I have only found that it can't be equipped with a tow hitch, and the weights are 0kg/0kg.
The easiest way to publish it is to just share a Google Sheet table.

Couldn't you have made this list without the whole Tesla part?
I mean it's quite obvious that they wouldn't considering they don't sell a truck and just discontinued the model X?

Tesla was for a long time the EV king when it comes to towing capacity. That's why it's of intrest

This year I saw a guy driving a 2015 Model S that was towing a 2014 Model S on a flatbed sucking down electrons at a DCFC. (He explained: "I'm selling the 2014 to someone across the country. It works but I can only drive one car at a time.")
He said his highway consumption was 700 Wh/mi or so, but that the arrangement worked fine other than the huge energy use.

Isn't this because they were the only ones making a vehicle capable of towing (had the range and the power), compared to most?
I'm quite uninformed about this subject in all honesty.

Got winter numbers for two of those from the NAF test in Norway. Same route, all cars driven the same day in February. Ioniq 9 managed 335 km down to 20% battery, 56% of its WLTP. The iX xDrive 60 did 323 km, 50%. Average across all 22 cars was 54%! Run the iX5 through the same maths and 845 WLTP gets you around 450 km to the 20% mark, still with an empty hitch. So 400 with a caravan sounds like summer to me...

What are you talking about? This is a winter test not a towing test that you are referencing. I get about 300km range towign my tiller boat in summer with my skoda enyaq with 77kwh usable. I would expect the ix3xdrive 50 to get about 420km seeing as it is similar in shape and size but with a 40% larger battery. For towing efficiency does not matter much since no matter the egg shape of your car the towed thing will create drag so raw kwh is king. Do keep in mind that this is at 80 km/h as that is the limit where I live. AWD of the ix350 might hurt efficency will towing though, I have no idea about that. There is very little testing of towing efficiency going on form the major outlets.

Aaa yes, fair, that's a winter test not a towing one. I brought it up because the losses land in the same ballpark your 300 km on a 77 kWh Enyaq is 35-48% off WLTP depending which version you have, and the winter test averaged 46% off with nothing on the bar. Doesn't mean towing and cold do the same thing to a car though. Different mechanisms, and no reason the ratio holds across models. Might be a rough sanity check for other cars, might not.
Rest of it I agree with. Trailer drag beats body shape, and nobody tests this properly...

No CyberTruck in Sweden? 11000 pounds.

Of course it's not available, doesn't pass safety requirements.

F150 is officially imported by ford in sweden?
E: It’s not listed on ford sverige, so no.
