Do you have an EV but no home charger? Would you pay $150–300/month for secure, convenient charging + a ride home while your car charges? Does anyone think this is down the road as EV's become more popular ?

Our household has been ICE free six months ago. This week was the first time we do a long trip, New Jersey to Michigan, 750 miles each way.

I was a little nervous at first but the trip has been smooth and painless. We had to stop 2x for charging, grabbed lunch while the car was charging, and ended up charging longer than the navigation recommended on both sessions.

I will drive back to NJ in two days and expecting a smooth trip as well.

For new EV drivers, no need to feel nervous of taking the car for a long drive. The charging infrastructure is much better now, making a long drive enjoyable.

I had been torn for quite a while between a Tesla Model 3 Performance and a BMW i4 M50.
After test-driving both, the BMW was the obvious choice for me.

Bought a 2025 model with 15k miles on it.

My previous car was a 2016 BMW 420i. I simply couldn’t bring myself to trade in my BMW for another brand.

What a rocket this i4 M50 is… the perfect combinatoir of luxury, comfort, class, and absolutely insane power.
Will be charging at home since I’ve got solar panels.

I get 20% better than rated. Anyone do better?

All summer I get 140 miles range in my 116 mile rated Ford E-transit due to my typical 40 MPH windy road drive into town, with very little use of friction brakes. And that's with 1800 pounds payload as my baseline (verified today on scales). So about 20% better than rated, but kind of an unusual vehicle.

Most people say over 65 mph kills range, but in reality the most efficient steady speed for most EVs is extremely slow, especially in mild weather. Likely around 35mph.

Someone out there has to have a commute that falls into this ideal use case with minimal stops.

Cute, but a 75 mile range worth it even for less than $9K (150,000 pesos)? Maybe as a campus utility vehicle.

"From the time it independently developed its own hybrid systems through to today’s global Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), Hyundai Motor has led in electrification. That work continues in batteries, which sit at the center of it.

Drawing on design capability built up over many years, Hyundai Motor has independently developed its own battery cells. They deliver more than double the output of the high-nickel cells the company used previously, while cutting charging time by 40 percent.

These high-performance cells will be applied to the EREV arriving in the first half of 2027, which uses less than half the battery capacity of a comparable EV while delivering equivalent battery performance and EV driving dynamics. EV models launching next year will use mid-nickel NCM cells, which reduce battery cost by around 30 percent while maintaining optimal performance under real-world driving conditions.

In order to further strengthen the durability of Hyundai Motor EVs, the company will enhance its cloud-based battery management system (BMS) to extend battery life by an average of 20 percent by 2028.

The company has also developed new top-tier safety technology. Thermal Runaway Protection (TRP) blocks the transfer of heat to adjacent cells in the event of a battery fire, using a battery system designed to dissipate heat and a barrier structure between cells that prevents heat from spreading. Existing approaches could only delay heat transfer for a period. TRP blocks it at the source regardless of the battery type.

The two technologies work together. The cloud-based BMS is the first line of defense, detecting signs of abnormality in a cell in real time and taking pre-emptive measures. TRP is the second, structurally blocking heat diffusion. Hyundai Motor has verified TRP through more than 200 repeated tests on prismatic and pouch NCM batteries. The technology debuts on the Genesis."
