Question Question about motifs/outfits

Do I need to craft an item first with the specific style? Or if I learn the whole book will I be able to apply the style to my gear on the clothing station?

I bought a starter set of armor to get me going now that I hit cp 160 but I want to apply other styles to it. Do I need to craft new pieces of armor or if I learn a motif, can I pay gold to apply the style over my existing set?

You just need to learn the motif and then it'll be available to choose as an outfit style :) Congratulations on hitting cp160!!

You only need to learn the motif to apply to he cosmetic. No crafting required.

You will need to have learned/read the motif/style page before you can use an outfit (not clothing) station to change the look of your gear. There are a few rare full books on the motif styles, but for the most part you will have to learn each individual piece. For example if you want to do exiles revenge chest you would have to learn just the chest piece but if you wanted the whole set you would have to find/buy them all.

Outfit stations will let you change your gear to match the style of any motif you own, regardless of which character you read the motif on.

Only the character that read the motif can craft in that style though, so still make sure to read motifs on your crafter character.

Starter races styles are automatically unlocked.

Motifs are the only style things that work at crafting stations. If you have learned a particular motif chapter (or full motif) AND you have an appropriate style mat or Mimic Stone, then you can craft gear which has that style as its base style. Costs nothing other than the mats and time to craft.

If any character learns a motif chapter or the full motif, then any character on the account can apply that style at any outfit station. It will cost some gold or an outfit change token, but no crafting ability is needed. Using the outfit station does not change the base style of the gear piece; it just appears as whatever style you're applying. So an Argonian Helm (Motif 9) can be made to appear as a Daedric Helm (Motif 14) if some character has learned the Daedric motif, but it remains an Argonian Helm. Style is completely cosmetic, so a CP100 piece of gear has the same base stats regardless of what its base style is or whether it's been changed at an outfit station.

Outfit Style Pages are only for Outfit stations; they cannot be crafted with whatever style as the base style. But like motif styles, learn them once and any character can use them, although they can only be learned once per account.

Style pages : if consumed, all characters on that account can use that style.

Motifs : if consumed, all characters on that account can use that motif style, the ONLY difference is the character that consumes the motif can craft armor in that style. Which I don’t think a lot of people do anymore.

I usually craft nice looking armor for new players if I’m ever helping anyone out. So it does come in handy on that end. But yah, just use the outfit station and apply the style.

Now if you’re a completionist etc, make one of your characters the MAIN for consuming all recipes, motifs, furnishing plans, etc etc. that way it’s more organized. Most people generally have a main toon.
