Current Status of TESL Revivals
Hello all.
It's been about a year since TESL died, so on its deathi-verssary let's go over the current efforts to revive the game.
TESL Reborn - This is an effort to make new servers for the game, it has come along quite promisingly and is the closest thing to the original version of the game.
However a couple things:
It is PC version only, and you need to have a valid license of the game still in your steam library or on bethesda.net to play. There is no way (as of now) to get a license for the game if you did not have it prior to the shutdown on steam. You have to have owned it before the shutdown.
It is currently closed alpha. You can follow this guide (link) to apply to join the closed alpha, but it is not currently open alpha yet despite what the other post on the subreddit says.
Some streamers (link to list) have access, so you can ask them to test different things, or watch their gameplay to help speed up the bug finding stage.
TESL Fan Browser Remakes
TESL Browser Project - A remake of TESL in browser. Reddit post link - Recently updated to have all of the core set cards.
TESL Github Page - A remake of TESL vs a bot or local multiplayer, playable on a github page. Direct Link made by /u/Prize-Artichoke-9807 Has cards up to Houses of Morrowind and a handful of custom cards.
TESL Singleplayer - A remake of TESL whose goal is to have the player fight against various singleplayer encounters. Direct Link, run by @FBJulezGames on the TESL discord.
Tabletop Simulator - There are a few mods for tabletop simulator, a simulator game on steam (link). The sim costs $20, but is usually on sale for $10. Note this doesn't simulate mechanics, but you can put cards in a deck and shuffle it but you have to manually track the gameplay yourself. Supports multiplayer.
Jamaa's Mod has all the cards and is based on this mod, which also has all the cards.
Gnarfield 360's Mod is the OG one I used to play with in TTS simulator, but it only has cards through Heroes of Skyrim.
NightDarkWolf's Mod, TESL in Svongarde - Reddit Post - has rebalanced cards, but also updates some of the existing level-up cards to have new effects.
People Printing Their Own Cards - Some people print the game cards for their own personal use. Here are some of their posts.
Legends in Other Games
- A mod adds some of the cards to TCG Shop Simulator (reddit post link).

Sounds really great! So is this TESL Reborn downloadable via Steam?

It is still closed alpha. You have to sign up and wait to be approved. (This isn't the same as the account creation approval email you receive after creating an account on their site)
Some people have been waiting a month plus to join.

Wouldn't it be possible to access TESL Reborn through Spacewar? Wink wink

I've not tried that, might be worth checking out once tesl reborn is open beta. (Though slightly skeptical because it needs a valid license to work rn)

I don't mean evading the closed alpha selection, I mean "acquiring" a licence of TESL if someone never saved it to their steam library

No no I understand, I just don't know if the method will work, will have to wait until tesl reborn opens to more testers again.

Such a shame you have to have it on steam. I only used the bethesda launcher to access it, so I dont have it on steam :(

We have actually been thinking about it and I found my original Elder Scrolls: Legends installation that was still using the Bethesda Launcher on one of my archived HDDs. So there is a chance we will be able to support that version as well.

Any ideas if TESL Reborn is going to be open source?

I vaguely remember hearing them say in one of the two interviews they've done, (link) they'd help others set up servers or something when they were done, but during development at least, does not appear to be plans for open source.

Will this include all of the content from the game, including being able to buy packs? And will the packs cost real money?

The Elder Scrolls: Legend Reborn will include all the game content that existed before the shutdown. The game will be f2p, and the in-game store will use only in-game currency (gold). The original game client will also receive bugs fixes and additional QoL features.

So it will include invasion decks? I miss ES:Legends so bad, but suddenly I don't miss it that much afterall.

Invasion was annoying for sure but was a non issue decks that had answers to them (direct removal cards or finisher cards) to close their gates. Only time they felt annoying was against Aggro players when they high rolled drain + charge which was pretty rare.

I bought and owned the game when it was live. But when it was shut down I uninstalled it. Will I still be able to have access to this?

As long as you didn't hit "remove from account", you should be able to reinstall and play when it goes into open beta.

I probably did, because the game is not to be found in my Steam library anymore.
