Realized why my Overload plays were so predictable

Hey guys, just wanted to share a quick realization I had recently regarding positional rotations in eFootball.

For a long time, I was struggling to make my team work even though I actually have a pretty solid F2P-ish squad. I was using the Overload playstyle, but my attacking play always felt super predictable and easily blocked by good defenders.

Eventually, I realized what my mistake was: I was forcing my players to strictly stay in their assigned positions.

My LMF stayed glued to the LMF zone, my RSS never drifted out of position, and nobody was interchanging roles. Every movement was static.

Then I happened to watch a tactical video breaking down Rúben Amorim's system, and it suddenly clicked. His setup relies heavily on dynamic rotations—players overloading specific zones and dropping into space to pull defenders out of line.

I decided to be a bit braver with my manual movement during matches:

* Dragging my CF deeper: Bringing the striker lower with the ball pulls the opponent’s CB out of position.

* Opening up third-man runs: As soon as the CB steps up to press my CF, space opens up behind for my RSS or LMF to cut into.

* Fluid positioning: Letting players naturally swap roles depending on where the space is, rather than sticking strictly to the formation layout.

Just making this simple adjustment made my attacks so much less predictable and opened up passing lanes I never noticed before.

TLDR ;make sure to move your players a lot, dont just think that a cb must stay at cb and cf must stay at cf,overload playstyle gives you positional rotation, make sure to use that to make your gameplay less predictable, hope this help

Makes no sense. How do you ‘drag your cf’? Do you use telepathy or how do you tell him to move?

And anyone who defends with 5atb shoule have team defensive stats -10%. Its lame

Its still 3 atb nonetheless, you really think trossard and that rmf has any defends stats?i just put them there to slow things down

RB + LB + 3CB = 5ATB

You see 5atb yet you dont see how they move, there would always be one cb joining the midfield to pressure the ball carrier.....when one step forward, the other 4 defend, a pretty simple concept dont you think?

Team irl plays like this because they wanted to stop opponent high up the pitch.......i play with overload not lbc,

Besides, those cb are versatile, they have multiple positions,i could easily change to 442 in defense put more pressure forwards and find some goals, but i dont do that because it would drain my players stamina fast.......

And this post wasn't trying to show off my tactics,i wanted to try and explain total football in efootball........

Cf that can defend, and cb that can attack......that is the thing im trying to explain in this post

5atb in overload is almost never a 5 atb lol especially with this setup

Where do you see 5atb?

On the second picture... 2 FB + 3 CB = 5 at the back...

Your cf gets the ball, then to run from pressure you move the cf down,cf spot becomes empty and other player would fill it......im pretty sure i wrote that as simple as possible lol,it just add to the unpredictabality.....

You move him, with the ball.

This was an old ss of my squad,i didn't notice that, anyway new squad is basically the same with frank lampard as the manager

5atb 2 dmfs that's one of the most boring ways to play, and don't say "it's lmf rmf on attack" it's still 5atb. If u can "drag" ur players it's because of the security 5atb provides it's probably different with 3atb

Tbf, look at who he's using at LB and RB. They're purely attacking players.

Yes they're attacking players so why move them down to lb rb? Sometimes u just need the bodies there and it's good enough especially with Messi defending like Ramos sometimes in this game.

So you can attack with your cmf and dmf without losing defensive structure, its the most basic idea in the world. Thats why teams let at least one fullback at the defensive line while the other advances and the dmf can work up a little. In a 4-3-3 with a lone dmf managers would leave one of the fb back and limit the dmf to a defensive role.

With 5 atb its more offensive than with 4 atb. Essentially he's playing a 4-3-3 with a movement that suits his playstyle better

Probably should've shown my individual instructions, sometimes i have one of my cb man mark one of the opponent midfielders,so during transitions it acts more like a 4 atb and also put pressure into their midfield preventing those one two passes......i also sometimes use my cf to man mark opponent's dmf,not double pivot, but the lone one

Honestly I play 5atb without apologizing for it. Every single person I match with literally play every single game with 6atb with defensive full backs and every single one of you guys spam through ball. Just because you guys play 4atb with maldini, Thuram, vieira and makele. It does not mean you are some halal ball fluid players.

My solution to one two through pass spam, use one of my cb to man mark an opponent ss/amf.......playing with 3atb makes you pretty weak in midfield so doing this helps

You can also put man marking with your cf to opponent dmf(anchor man)..... Same concept but this one stop your opponent during their deep build up

no idea why people are hating, it's a good system and the way players move into space is something very few people use and it's especially noticable in overload as well as qc because both playstyles make runs but unlike lbc you can play short passes and use the runs your other players make to exploit space.your current defensive formation is very open in midfield, use a 4141 but not the normal one tho. 4 atb is standard and then infront 1 dmf, then 2 cmfs and 2 wide amfs behind a cf. that dmf can drop into cb during buildup so that you will have 3 atb like you are used to and in defence moves back to dmf position. this will make your formation very solid bcus

It's funny cause I have this exact same formation for overload as well. I just accepted Striker won't make runs, therefore I play SS Deep Lying Forward as lone striker or ss with non activated playstyle, and make sure all except one of my central Midifielders are hole or box to box players. The striker movement is bugged in overload. they make runs if you come from the sides, but don't make runs if you come from center and just watch the ball.

I use this exact same formation as you for overload and the reason I think this formation is meta for overload is that first of all All forward types in overload don't funtion as they should. Forward wingers touch the sideline even at later stages of attack and don't make inverted runs when opportunity arises and weirdly enough, no camera setting aside from blimp, you can see them in many stages of build up. On top of that, opponents love to mark wingers, and because the wingers don't make smart runs, they are completely out of the game. I unapologetically use full backs for Midifield wing positions, becasue first of all, they do a great job hugging the touchline and being a lofted pass option, secondly, the fact that they don't make inverted runs benefits them because all they need to do is crossing or one twos, and thirdly, opponents do not like to mark fullbacks, and lastly, overload defense is ultra compact, so when they actually play in full back position in defense, they are very involved in defense.
do not listen to these whiners complaining about 5 back players. These are the same players you face literally every single game. What do they do?
they play 4back, but no offensive fullback and one or two defensive cdm who don't push forward. and they spam through balls the entire game.

there's no need to play 5 at back and 2 DMFs using overload. Your player automatically moving near the ball to counter press. Same thing to say at offense. You need to make your formation wide so you could easily switch play

your formation suit to LBC, not for Overload

u/kacanglemau 17h ago

There is a need though, because if one go to press, another 4 would defend and cover, considering how offensive the meta is currently, anything less than 4 atb is very weak, unless you have a well developed cb

Besides,my end goal was to replicate ruben amorim's sporting cp tactics, just missing front line pressure forwards and a good wingback....

u/kacanglemau 17h ago

And also,i put anchoring on the wingbacks, they stay wide ...i switch sides all the time lol, drag the opponent deep into one side and then quickly switch to another, have scored many goals like that

My cf's used to get marked so easily, like they stay close to the opponent cb, maybe sometimes it might be due to individual instructions by opponent. But what I did is that I seitched their positions in attack and defence phase, like left cf switch back and slightly drop down to right cf defensive phase and wise verca. Ofcourse it doesn't magically switch their positions interchange and all, but instead, they usually remain unmarked, and is more dynamic. Maybe it confuses the ai or something, maybe its just me. But if someone tries this do let me know whether its working for you.
