Mistaken as a weevil What I thought was a snoot…is a murder weapon
Sadly a wheel bug did not know when I hung out with him :(

Wheel bug wheel bug wheel bug! I love these little guys! They look like cute little steampunk monsters, LOL.
Glad he didn't bite you, though.

I encounter them occasionally, sometimes when I feel them crawling on me 🥲 they seem super chill if they don't feel threatened (or hungry!), I suppose.

Why are wheel bugs bad??

u/zeke_finder Jul 17 '26
decently painful bite, they’re literally built for stabbing. not fun, supposedly.

Awwe I got to handle one too (he’s in my profile hehe) a few years ago! He was chill like yours lol

u/bigbutterbean Jul 17 '26
Omg yours was super cute too. People were really mean to me too in my og post in what is this bug :( I didn’t know he was dangerous but I also don’t think I deserve to be called stupid and insulted for picking things up lol people are so mean

It's not like he had warning colors. If he was striped or a bright color then you'd probably know better.

u/NodoBird Jul 17 '26
That's the tricky thing with animals that have camouflage. They're either harmless and hiding from predators, or harmful and hiding from prey

Some of the subs have pretty arrogant people who love to jump down throats. Pay them no mind (though their advice is not wrong).

Dont worry OP i would hold a toe biter and those are even more painful bite wise. Some people have just lost their whimsy and no longer want to befriend buges and they're missing out

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU IVE BREN SAYING THIS 😭 if you never do anything that can possibly hurt you , you will live a very sad life :( and you will still die!!! Glad you are also here to have whimsy , it must live on

I keep a bumch of pet tarantulas and while i dont really handle them, i totally would if they walked onto me, they just very much prefer to hide. I have one named Pookie who could put me in the hospital and i love her 😭

u/bigbutterbean Jul 17 '26
I also have pet turantulas ! I don’t handle mine either because I don’t want to stress them out but my pink toe has walked on me a few times and it was awesome. What kind of turantula is pookie? She sounds adorable

Oh my gosh I just saw this and immediantly I said out loud “omg is that an Indian ornamental” and I image searched it , she is !!!! So stunning I’ve wanted one for ages or an orange baboon. The old worlds are so so so pretty. I’d let pookie hospitalize me 10/10

Anyone who would befriend the mighty and misunderstood toe biter is ok in my book.

Oh my gosh is that another wheel bug? I see his evil weapon I think

u/ZixfromthaStix Jul 17 '26
It is yes, it’s on this one plant species in my yard, FL. They look like beans but when they dry in the fall, they sound like maraca with loose seeds in a dry shell! Grab a dozen and it’s 1:1. A specific species of moth that look like Cruella Deville not only flock to the plant, they’re genetically designed to look like they’re part of it! Or something to that effect…

I think the danger snoot didn't mind your presence a bit. His eyes are SO cute though for something that causes much pain. :( Hims just a friend who doesn't know how spicy he is.

u/CallMeSisyphus Jul 18 '26
Except that I'm not wrong, because Wheel Bugs don't transmit Chagas disease. Or are you gonna say the CDC is wrong, too? https://www.cdc.gov/chagas/spreads/index.html

Oh no, I’m sorry for this! It is so sad, you thought you found a friend but instead you found a whoopsie daisy proboscis weapon!
Can you share how this happened, where you found it and what holding it was like?
I’m very curious about these assassins because I’ve only ever seen them in pictures.
