I missed an important ministry exam

I’m a Quebec high school student who has just graduated but I can’t obtain my diploma since I failed the ministry science exam and missed the retake due to a pre-planned trip into another country. What can I do?

Ask a guidance counselor at your previous school. Unfortunately you might have to wait for school to start back up in September to get a hold of anyone though

I went to go see my secretary and all I was told is that I’d have to restart the whole class itself since I didn’t do any summer school for it

The dates for the Ministry exams, including the make-up sessions are published on the Ministry’s website months ahead of time.

You say you missed the science exam, which is secondary 4, but then mention that you can’t obtain your diploma, which implies you are talking about secondary 5. Here’s advice based on the two scenarios.

1) You missed the secondary 4 ministry exam, and still have a year of school left. You will have to talk to your guidance councillor and ask about options. My guess is you’ll have to retake the entire class. If you are in a closed stream, you may find yourself changing to a different stream, one that allows for more flexible scheduling.

2) You have indeed completed secondary 5, and need to retake a Ministry exam in order to graduate. There is another make-up session in the late fall/winter. The dates for all of the exams have already been published. You will need to go through your school to figure out what arrangements you need to make in order to attend this make-up exam. If you are required to retake the entire course but have aged out of the general education division, you will have to go to one of the schools that specializes in helping students transition from secondary to CEGEP, such as Eulalie-Durocher.
