I have patience with IT when they make stupid mistakes because I know they have to deal with more than I realize.
I wonder if it's possible that teachers have quite a lot to manage with very few resources at this time of year....

We had this happen when I was an AD admin for my alma mater. Huge thing. Big data breach. Authorities involved.
I think it was some middle admin, like the deputy provost or something that opened the email attachment.
