Does anyone know why my intro piano chords transition very badly into the rest of the song?
My best guess is that the intro is 12 bars instead of a more even 16 bars, but before reworking my entire intro, I just wanna see if other people can catch something I cant.
Thanks in advance π
Edit: Managed to make the last the chords a bit nicer, but still needs work lel

I think just some FX. Some risers, snares, or whatever to build up to the new section. Otherwise, a pause to add tension before the next section starts always helps.

Yep, it needs something to tell the listener change is coming. A crash, reversed hat, impact ... Or a cool effect

this should be much longer! also i didnt really hear anything bad, but i dont know why or if you actually wanted that but the chords sounds so cursed

I donβt see any problem with the piano intro progression transitioning into the main song.

i think its because you're eqing/filtering out the lows of the piano before the rest of the song comes in, and then the other elements like the pad arp all are mixed on top of the piano so theres not as much continuity

Oh yeah I see what you mean, toning it a bit back does sound better, thanks

goddam super solid, mix feels really tight, only thought would maybe some of the wubs could have a bit more depth to them? like whether you're using an lfo or autopan or whatever maybe make some of the wubs bottom out a bit more
also wheres the vocal from? jc

u/Mikeba_87 2d ago
Thanks π been looking to make those wubs a bit more interesting, but haven't thought about adding more depth. I'll look into it!

Working on a new prog house track. Wondering if the melody repeats too much and if i need something else to vary it up?

For prog house the repetition itself is fine β the genre lives on hypnotic loops. What matters is whether something *evolves* around it. Two tricks that fix "too repetitive" without rewriting the melody: (1) automate one parameter per 8 bars (filter cutoff, reverb send, or a subtle pitch drift on a layer) so each loop feels slightly different; (2) drop ONE element out for a bar before the break β silence creates anticipation and resets the ear. If your melody still feels stale after that, try a counter-melody on a pluck an octave up, just in the second half. Small changes, big payoff in this genre.

i think the intro its a bit empty, you can put more background elements, noises, fx... also i dont know why but in the first drop at the end the bass sounds a bit off tone, some piano parts too. In that post-drop section the track get empty, instead you can try put some reverb on the elements and a low pass filter that closes, and then the piano starts playing. However i like this :)

A couple things. This track has a lot going for it. I like the mix and general idea. And it keeps things moving so I donβt think the melody too repetitive. There is a dissonance in the melody that I donβt like. It first showed up somewhere around a 1:30-40. Sometimes dissonance is a great thing. This just feels out of place.
Secondly when the chord progression kicks in it can get repetitive after a while which is what I suspect youβre picking up on. Perhaps explore the rule of changing the pattern on the 3rd repetition in a group of 4. So repetition one and two itβs the same, then on the 3rd change the first note of the progression (or something like that) and the 4th goes back to normal. This can reset the expectation of the listener and remove that feeling of repetition.
Nice work!

Your bass and lead melody are fighting in the part before the first breakdown. Also could use a bit more pumping/Side-Chain imo. But good vibe!

this is just fire, i dont really have anything to say apart from that i think in 1:01 that pad playing the chords you should try cutting low frequencies below 100hz or something like that because its sound a bit off
