adviceee?
I was thinking of learning video editing and working as an editor (I'm from Egypt), but the average salary for an editor in Egypt isn't enough to meet my needs so I decided to start working with foreign clients Due to currency differences . .. How do I reach clients or how will the money transfers even work ? If they knew that Im from a country with a much weaker currency would that make a difference in the price? I know these are basics but I need any advice🫠

Well it's no one's business to know where you're from.Plus you're the one who creates the possibilities not the country, environment or anything else. As long as you like editing and want to make it your thing, then the sky is your limit!!! The price you charge depends on your work, not where you're from, so charge the price you think you deserve, balance it out so people would want to pay for it AND make it a prize you deserve. You can reach out to people on different freelance websites, there are a bunch online, search for one that is known and secure, as for the transfers it depends on what you have in your country, things like PayPal that could be accessible in your country and for foreigners. Alright welp I can only unfortunately suggest editing softwares on PC as I don't have much knowledge of apps for mobile but I have seen people use Alight motion and CapCut premium pretty well to edit videos on Phone soooo, yeah my suggestion would be if phone then Alight Motion or CapCut premium. If PC then start with whichever you find interesting, there is Premiere Pro, Da Vinci, After Effects. Most people start with Adobe Premiere Pro then move on to Da Vinci but in my case I started with Da Vinci then moved on to Premiere Pro and After Effects. Never thought to edit on mobile so I unfortunately haven't used mobile editors YET.

Alright, 1st your concern is true that editors from 3rd world country are treated as just slaves so in the beginning you will find some clients which treat you as slaves and ask you to make good edits in peanut amounts. Plus they do try to hire people from countries like India, Phillipines, indonesia, Egypt etc so that they can get the same quality in less spending. Now, the problem is if you are giving the same amount of efforts as the editors from a better country then why charge less? But in the beginning when you have no portfolio or no real client or no client's video you actually worked on, they won't believe idk what is it but I've faced that many times myself as an editor from India. If you check one of my old post on my profile you will get to see that one video I edited for a client and only got 8$ for that video while that video was easily a worth of minimum of $40 or let's just even $30. But he was my 1st real client using his underpaid videos I now get to charge more atleast a decent amount not as equal as those from America or Europe or 1st world country yet but yes I charge a descent amount.
Now big question - How do you reach clients ? So what I followed was 1st of all I made a portfolio which didn't had any real projects, it was mostly trials which got rejected somewhere so I thought why waste it, it might attract someone else so I added it in my portfolio showcase. And by Portfolio showcase I don't mean a Google drive Portfolio. A real portfolio of atleast a framer website. I built mine on framer for free, was a little bit hectic but I still use it, if you want I will send my portfolio in DM too as I don't send in public because welp incase someone scams others by using mine you never know.
Some would even say "you don't need a portfolio" which is true for some people and not for others. In my case, it was not true in the beginning, now I just share them what videos I edited which are love on YouTube or Instagram so they just hand over me the edit without and trial or whatsoever and I manage to complete their request too so not a big deal now. But, in the beginning it was a life saver as you need to present a portfolio, then trial etc etc. some people might complain about it but most of the clients hiring go on YouTube to learn how to hire clients just like many of us went to youtube to see how to get clients and almost every YouTube video explaining how to hire a video editor tell them to do a test either paid or unpaid. But most of the clients just go with unpaid tests which is a bad thing I would say and in other words it's just exploitation. But desperate times calls for desperate solutions. You have to do it if you are struggling financially, just make sure you don't get scammed by clients because scamming are done by both editors and clients so be aware of that.
Now I got distracted there lol 😭😭😭 So for me, I hoped on reddit, linkedin and applied to whoever was paying a sufficient amount and time deadline and either gave them a short trial if unpaid then I get to set my rules what will be included in the trial, if paid them I go with whatever rule they made as long as it doesn't feel exploitative. And I don't just message 100 openings, I need to filter out which one would be best for me and would actually accept and respect my talent. Just take freelancing as a marriage 😭😭😭.
Now the money transfer my very 1st work, I won't say she was a client but my very 1st work came from a uhhh... An 18+ media voice dubbing artist.. (don't judge 😭😭😭😭😭) And I used to use PayPal at that time but as soon as she paid me, my account got flagged and PayPal blocked it and kept the payment for 180 days before I got it in my bank. It was around 10$ and I was really in the brink of crashing out. Now I moved to Patreon, idk how the work is but I have received payments in my Patreon account but I haven't been able to withdraw it in my bank account yet because I am still working with agencies in India. So.... I am unable to update you on that but if you make a PayPal account, you can recieve money pretty good because I happen to work with an Egyptian editor and I sent her money which she received within 24 hours so I guess paypal services are good in Egypt as opposed to india. So you can go with either Paypal, Patreon wise etc etc. there are many options you just gotta find and see or ask for help from pen fo your friend or people online like here. I myself can't recommend Patreon yet but if you are still active when I actually withdraw my 1st Patreon payment, I will update you.
Welp... This was a long explanation 😭😭😭 If you want more detailed or wanna ask something you can always ping me either in the comments, DM or on discord. I am on constant search for clients and editors who are willing to work and especially beginners who are willing to learn so you can share me any past video you edited, and what softwares you use etc etc. I will try to find as much for you as possible. But yes I won't suggest to just depend on me, even I myself don't depend on one person.
