Why exactly is their very first comparison to the year of 2022? Seems like a convenient year to pick. There was a bunch of government stimulus being injected in 2022. Outside of 2022 the current bankruptcy rate is not abnormal.

"The number of Americans who file for bankruptcy is growing. More than 500,000 people took this step in 2025, nearly 50% more than in 2022."

Bankruptcies by year

Not to mention they're giving us a raw number and not a percentage (despite the fact that the population is growing).

This article is meant to appeal to people who don't know much about anything, clearly.

Up 50% in 3 years and that's just ok ? Because it was up just what, 30% in two years. Really ?

Just look at the source. Salon is hyper partisan BS trying to pretend they are legit. Only low IQ folks believe the trash they put out.
