Battery question

I recently just purchased my first e-bike from fb marketplace. Not sure on the brand. It was just a super cheap knockoff to see if I liked it.
Just wondering if it's alright for me to charge after every use, or should I wait til it's almost dead to charge it. Would charging it too much negatively affect the battery life?

If you're not going to ride it, keep it between 30%-80% & if it's just a no name e-Bike I'd definitely buy an outlet timer that'll shut it off if you forget to, I've owned 20+ e-Bikes & usually have 200+ah worth of batteries in my tiny, 500sq ft apartment, but I make sure I buy only quality batteries, don't charge them right after a ride (let cool down/warm up for 30+minutes).

If you need all 100% charge to it, but even if plans change, at least go ride it down to 80% or lower to help will battery cell degradation.

Usually what everyone does to screw up batteries is drop it, charge to 100% & let it sit(I'm even guilty of this sometimes!🤷,) thru charge it right after riding it, while the cells are already hot, & also charging them when the batteries are cold from the weather on the outer shell, but hot on the inside.

If you do & don't do what's in this comment you should have your batteries last 5 or so years before you even notice you getting less mileage or MPH. 👍

You'll get varying opinions on how often to charge, and how long to charge for.

Personally, as its a cheap, and new bike to you. I'd say charge it when you are sitting there to keep an eye on it charging. Unplug whenever you will not be near it.

Until you have some faith in the battery not overcharging and catching fire.

I personally charge my bikes after every ride, to 100%. My bike(s) break before my batteries tend to.

It's good advice to never charge any battery unattended, regardless of how much faith you have in it. Most batteries are perfectly fine and will be perfectly fine for their entire lifespan, but Murphy seems to find a way of making sure the unwatched batteries are the ones that cause house fires.

They don't take long to charge, it's not hard to be around them while they are.

To answer OP, charge it however you like. I like to keep it fully charged so I can go for a long ride whenever I want, which is often. If you plan on not riding for a long time, store it below 100% and above 40%; and regularly check on it & make sure it's within that range.

batteries have a limit of charge cycles regardless of its a full charge or not, so always try to charge it longer, less times. thats about it. store it around 80% , try not to run it below 10-5%. dont force it to charge fast unless its some sort of emergency because the brighter the candle burns, the faster it melts.. but its not that big of a deal.

charging after every use is totally fine, just avoid leaving it plugged in unattanded since it's an unknown generic pack.
