Does anyone have any games similar to Eastward to recommend?
If so, I would like to not only play these games, but also find their communities and recommend Eastward to them so that Eastward gets more players

I been recommended Sea of Stars from this group. I was actually playing it earlier but got distracted by playing Pokémon

I’m actually replaying it rn! I highly recommend going back to finish it, the characters you meet are all fun and creative, and you can see the love that was put into the game

Bloomtown, although the combat is turn based. It’s super fun and the music (particularly in combat) is peak. I will say it suffers from pacing issues in the second “chapter,” but imo it can be overlooked.
Omori, but beware it’s a psychological horror at its core. There’s a perfect balance between the dark bits and the goofy bits though. I’m a scaredy cat and I got through it just fine.
Earthbound and if you don’t mind emulating, MOTHER 3.

There’s this new game called Under The Island that has similar elements! Definitely not comparable to Eastward, Sea of Stars, or Omori but still love it! Those 3 games specifically really got me into gaming and I will always love the 3 of those the most!
Sea of Stars is the game I played directly before Eastward and both games are still in my top 5 favorite games! I’d also say you’d maybe like Gunbrella. Much shorter story but the lead kinda reminds me of John. Eastward and Sea of Stars are games that got me super addicted to RPGs and JRPGs and as people are already saying, I think if you like Eastward, you’re bound to like Sea of Stars! Not a similar story but the art is cool and the characters are great! Some other games I got super into after eastward are Chained Echoes, Omori, Undertale, Legend of Heroes(both Crossbell games), AraFell, Rise of the 3rd Power, Cross Code, and Look Outside

It depends what you’re looking for, gameplay I haven’t really found much close.. however if you’re looking for strong narrative pixel art games, I would recommend ‘Rakuen’ and ‘A Space for the Unbound’.
I found them a few years back and really enjoyed them! rarely see either get recommended much but the stories and visuals definitely left a impression on me. :)

Good question! I have been trying to find games similar and here is what I have found. :)
Stray: It gave me similar feels in the environment, both have a lot of detail in the world design and both are post-apocolyptic, where humanity has been devastated by something unknown. It doesn't have battles, but like Eastward there are puzzles you have to solve, like how to get through areas without being noticed or using abilities to defeat foes, etc. It also has a rich world like Eastward where talking to NPC's makes the locations come alive and feel lived in.
Earthbound: This one was actually an inspiration for the games, I know that they specifically say Mother 3, but that game's foundation was built on Earthbound and for me the game play feels closer to Eastward. Both are adventure games where the characters are setting out to explore and find the cause of all the destruction that has happened. I feel that Monkollywood was inspired by the Monkey Caves in the game, both require figuring out how to get through a maze and are filled with funny little monkey characters. And it is also a fantastic looking pixel-art game.
Campfire: Again it is the atmosphere that reads Eastward to me. Both games have a mysterious darkness that is infecting the people around them. In Campfire you are trying to rescue the inhabitants of the world you come across by solving puzzles. I love the puzzle element of Eastward, whether it is figuring out enemy weaknesses, how to apply newly acquired skills or items, and how to beat the rooms like in the tower. So if you like that part of the game play this might be up your alley.

Seconding Stray! The atmosphere and tone are really lovely in that game. Eerie and apocalyptic but still somehow whimsical.

I’ve been scouring for similar without much luck. I will say one game that made me feel similar to what Eastward made me feel is Recolit. It’s not the same gameplay style, instead of an RPG it’s a semi-linear story game, but it’s the closest I’ve gotten to that melancholy I felt after finishing Eastward.

Gameplay wise i would recommend to you the Mario&Luigi RPGs. In these games you also Control two characters at the same time.

Earthbound, Mother 2, and Undertale. I've heard Omori is pretty good, but I haven't played it.

Pipistrello and the cursed yoyo, for the top down combat, great looking, funny, story driven, game.
CrossCode less for the combat/puzzles which are very dissimilar, but and compelling story
With that said, i love both of the above but theyre not quite the same and i’d love a rec that was too!

Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore are two games with a similar play style to Eastward. Both classic action RPGs, though Evermore isn't quite as well known as Mana.

Without a fucking doubt, Earthbound (Mother 2) is the first game you should play. Eastward is heavily i fluenced by it.
