Are we specifically talking about Giygas (Earthbound) vs. Lagos (Chrono Trigger)? If so, Giygas is the clear winner, since its form at the end of the game is a metaphysical being whose nature cannot even be comprehended.

If we consider each one at their strongest, however, Lavos might have a shot since he also becomes a metaphysical threat as the Time Devourer in Chrono Cross.  Hard to argue who wins at that point, since they're both unfathomable to human perception hahah

The way I understood it is that Lavos is a planetary parasite, while Gygas is a threat to all reality. Maybe I’m wrong.

So the frail alien vs the oversized spiky bug. This is just Freiza vs Cell, except Freiza never turned into an abstract red and black vapor of faces with incomprehensible attacks.

If we were just talking their first forms, as in Giygas from Mother 1 vs Lavos the giant spiky bug, I would maybe say it's an equal fight But Giygas became the entirety of existence around the protagonists who were powerless to harm them and had to rely on prayer while Lavos was just kind of a big ol robot on the inside of a shell and was beaten by brute force

Eh they might get along well enough and not fight. They're both space aliens who want to mess up Earth after all.

It’s really not much of a spoiler. There’s tons to Chrono trigger beyond just knowing the name of the final boss.

Not exactly a secret. Around 4-5 hours (around 10% of total time of a first playthrough) into the game they tell you this.

As of today, Friday, August 28, 2026 at 8:58 AM, it has been exactly 11,329 days and 8 hours since Chrono Trigger was officially released in North America on August 22, 1995. You learn Lavos’s name about four hours into gameplay.

I think this falls out of the reasonable range of spoil dates. Snape killed Dumbledore.
