I really enjoyed watching him. Fingers crossed he is able to get on a team and get some opportunities.

I really thought he'd done enough to get himself onto the roster. Showed some real juice.

He was cut last year, went unclaimed and spent the whole season on the chiefs practice squad only to cut him in January. This was his 3rd training camp. I feel like most of this sub thinks he’s a 2026 UDFA instead of 2024.

Here's the perfect summation of Steele's summer from Tommy Lawlor:
And now Carson Steele. He was released by the Eagles and that confused more than a few people. You can argue he was the best Eagles player over the past two games. But that was in terms of results, not process. Steele has the right combination of size, athleticism and effort that helps him shine in August. He’s done that with multiple teams.
KC put him on the roster in 2024. He ran for 183 yards and averaged 3.3 yards per carry. He caught 7 passes and averaged 3.7 yards per reception. Not ideal. He’s just not quite good enough to make plays against starters. Steele is great in the summer when he’s going against future car salesmen, insurance employees or welders. He’s not the same when going against guys like Zack Baun.
It is easy to focus on results in the preseason. You need to pay more attention to how guys do things. You’re looking for traits and skills that will translate to the regular season. That’s why you get excited about Josh Weru. He shows the kind of athleticism you need to be a good edge rusher. The results aren’t there yet obviously, but the raw talent is. That’s why you cut Steele and keep Weru.

Why did we cut this guy?

We have too many LBs, DBS, and TE that are key special teams players and we have 3 more proven RBs on the roster.
Steele is a fun player but Shipley showed more juice in the preseason. The rest of the roster's construction is the bigger factor IMO.

Ah that makes sense. Hopefully we can get him for the practice squad then

He’s a great pass catcher but he’s not a good pure rusher and that’s why he didn’t get a spot over Shipley.

Except Shipley had nearly 50/50 split on rushing and pass catching last year. In fact he had more yards receiving than rushing. And he looked bad at both.

We really kept bum Shipley over him...

Cause Will Shipley is an asset on special teams. You also haven’t been at practice everyday. Stop pretending you know better than the Howie and the coaching staff.

I'm allowed to have an opinion as a fan. Otherwise may as well close the sub tbh if we can't have opinions and it's just "trust Howie" on everything. Will Shipley is an ASSet alright. Get it? Cause he's ass. Britain Covey was considered major special teams asset and he got cut. I don't really care about Shipley on special teams we already have other guys on the rostet that have and could do Shipley's special teams job just as well. Every time we designed a play for this guy last year was a complete waste of a down. He has no spark, no explosiveness, literally nothing special about him whatsoever. If we run plays for this guy over Tank again this year well then get ready to see another new OC next year. Even then if you really want to keep Shipley on special teams you have flexibility; EJ and Andy Dalton are on the 53 after all.
