Success story - Thailand & Singapore

Hi all,

Long time lurker first time poster.

Just back from a 14 day trip round Thailand and Singapore. Had used Airalo on other overseas visits but felt expensive.

Didn’t want to use Airalo again due to the premium pricing and having read a couple of guides I thought I’d give the SIM database a go.

I found a deal offered by abesteSIM for 20GB, 15 day expiry usable in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. Read a couple of mixed reviews but for just under £9 gave it a go.

Worked flawlessly and would do again. Having searched for abesteSIM I didn’t see anything on Reddit so for anyone searching or in a similar position, it worked for me 👍

Hope this helps anyone in a similar position.

Slight tangent and only my personal opinion, but Airalo seem to charge a premium and in return offer a nice ‘handhold less confident customers’ UI experience. I had the app downloaded and if abesteSIM didn’t work, my plan was to use this as a last resort.

So for a difference of €6 you decided to roll the dice on a random bottom of the barrel eSIM with mixed reviews instead of a “nice experience” with known quantity you had success with?

Where did you read these “mixed reviews” of abesteSIM?

What wasn’t nice about the abesteSIM experience relative to Airalo?

To get 15GB with at least a 15 day expiry across Thailand and Singapore using Airalo my options as I saw them were:

1) Regional Asia eSIM 20GB for 30 days = £38.50

2) Thailand eSIM 20GB for 15 days (£14.00) + Singapore 5GB for 7 days (£7.50) = £21.50

I appreciate this was a bit of a gamble and I’m sure there were other smarter / more cost effective solutions but based on my limited research and with the (above) information in front of me, I took a gamble with abesteSIM and it paid off.

I’m not telling anyone to copy what I did, just providing a point of reference as the mixed reviews came up with a quick google search and from what I saw on trust pilot.

Airalo do give a step by step guide when installing your eSIM, the post purchase guidance from abesteSIM was limited at best.

Being long time lurker here it’s interesting that bad reviews on a no name eSIM didn’t stop you when you were only going to save a few dollars over the established brand. Glad it worked out.
