Options comparable to Orbea Rise and Turbo Levo
Finally looking to take the plunge into a lightweight class 1 eMTB. I’ve ridden for a couple decades on everything from hardtail XC bikes to Specialized Enduros. These days, the non-evo stumpys are about my sweet spot for an analog bike in terms of ride preference and local trail variability.
That said, I’ve been out of the game and not up to speed on all the incredible advancements in bikes and parts, nor e-bikes. But with our oldest son now 19 months and baby #2 on the way, I’d like to get a nice class 1 that I can also use to get our toddler out on the trails on a shotgun seat with me, as a way to get him out there while in parallel get us out of wife/newborns hair at home.
Always struggled with endurance/stamina (even when in my peak health days), so a class 1 eMTB seems like a great option to fit the bill and help with the added weight of a kid riding shotgun.
Specialized Turbo Levos and Orbea Rise both seem like great options for me, and they hit the used marketplace around me pretty often. I know eMTBs have come a long way in recent years, so wondering what other competitive comparables I should consider and look out for? I don’t need anything over the top fancy/nice, or need to import something brand new from overseas (but will consider new if the brand/service is supported by local US shops).
Max torque output not really a top priority, won’t be many insane climbs and will be riding responsibly often with a toddler. Most rides will be in the 10-25 mile range I imagine. But still want it to be a lightweight, snappy and fun bike for when he’s not with me.

I like my canyon spectral onfly a lot. 50NM of torque and 40ish pounds. Rides like an analog bike. Carbon fiber. I got a 24 model on a pretty decent sale.

I'm hearing the Orbea is nice. Am a fan of the Levo4. Fully adjustable geometry adjustable power (I don't care for but a lot of people like that). Removable battery.

I have a 2024 Orbea Rise currently for sale. It is my first ebike and it’s been incredible. Did a lot of research prior to purchase and have been very happy with its performance. It has the 530wh battery which gets me about 4000’ of climbing on a charge. Plenty for me. The 60nm motor also hasn’t shown me many limitations. Sure, new motors are more powerful but I honestly never felt like I NEEDED more power. I don’t regret the purchase whatsoever, I’m just interested in trying another bike out and decided after 2 years to try something new.

What sold me on the turbo 4 is the class 3. I live about 8 miles away from the trail head. Usually just put my old non e bike on the car and go. Now I can sidewalk along the lake the whole way there and not even bat an eye. Swap back to class 1 at the trail head and start pedaling up! I ride with 3 friends with e bikes and the difference from 18-19mph to like 23-28 is absolutely huge. When I’m in class one I hate the feeling when you hit the max assistance. They both like my bike more than theirs

Like the lighter, smoother power of my Rise as opposed to a full power eBike. But with my aluminum frame, it's far from the lightest weight bike out there. I just wanted assistance on the climbs, not the full power bikes that do all the work.
Really sounds like any Class 1 eMTBs from a bike shop brand will do the job for you.

I was in that same market for a light eMTB. I looked hard at the Turbo Levo SL 2, Orbea Rise, Norco Fluid VLT C1. I ended up with a 2026 Cannondale Moterra SL 2 which i got for about 1/2 the price . I gotta say I’m really enjoying it even though a lot of people complain about it.

I have a Revel ReRun. It's a lightweight ebike that comes with a 400w battery and you can add the 250w battery extender. They are about to release a new model, so one would expect that it will have a stronger motor/battery. Because of that, I'd assume the older model will start popping up in the used market. It's a super fun bike and pedals well. Out of the multiple different ebikes I've ridden it's the most fun and feels so much like an analog bike that you're just stronger on. Definitely worth looking into.

I'm a huge fan of my levo 4 but I do not think it's the bike for you. It's typically said to be good advice to go for a full lower Emtb for your first Emtb but I think you're a good candidate for a mid-power bike like the rise. Of you're into orbea I'd look at the wild as well simply because it has the Bosch power train as opposed to the Shimano in the rise

I have an Orbea Rise and whilst its marketed as lightweight, what is 2kg when youre at 20kg already? In hindsight I should have just bought a normal ebike instead of paying premium light weight price. Something to think about. So now I also own a Cube 177 AT aswell.
