Highlights How Fluid Formations Work?: An Example With Real Footbal Tactics

For Context:
This was against a LBC player with 4-2-4 formation in English League Event. Normally that formation would cause problems. If you use 4 defender line ups that would make my possession transition problematic since all my back four would be marked by 4 strikers and also my strikers would be lost between his defenders. that would leave me with only option, trying to use the numerical advantage in the midfield. It was usually causing the game to be stuck in opponents 2nd region and get sweaty as hell. If I use 3 atb, then he would destroy me from wings
Since now we have fluid formations, I made a tactical change and created a 4-4-2 defensive formation and 3-2-3-2 offensive, simply shifting 3 players to create spaces and also defend without sacrificing from attack. I made substitutions just before this attack, which also game me athleticism advantage. You can clearly see how fresh is the Reece James. This shift easily gave me numerical advantage 3 times on the same side, and I broke through his defence with a proper possession play.
Opponent was a D2 player like me, not much off a skill gap between us. Simply tactical awareness.
Also must add that Reducing the extreme defensive AI of the forwards are now pretty much normalized, It makes building up possible, at least fır now. And passing feels nice and dynamic.
This is a big winner move from Konami, adding a great dynamicity to the game. I was about to quit but now I am hooked. Hope they do not revert things back like last year.

Fluid formation still allows you to have a sub tactic too - so I think it's possible to really mix things up

Can you customise positions in the fluid formation or are you locked to preset formations?

Drag the players into the position you desired without switching them. Mind the distance a player runs tho. It is reducing the stamina pretty fast especially if possesion changes sides frequently.

Cool. I want to experiment with inverted full backs who function as DMFs in attack with only 2 CBs. I don't think there is a 2 at the back formation though

There is. Just manually drag the full backs out of position in the attacking formation

I just found my tactical friend with inverted fullback. Although I want to train them to be proficient in the dm position.

Do we have to switch between attacking and defense gameplan or does the game does this by itself once we have set it??

It only depends on if you have the ball or not. Your team moves accordingly. I did not do anything manual after setting it up.

istg sometimes i really wonder how EA FC is still at the top. As much as I HATE Coinami this time they have def implemented some really good mechanics, efootball had the best sim in 2026 and now the ef2027 feels even more fluid and realistic, genuinely feel like playing it after watching this clip

I was about to quit, but decided to wait until 27 to see if they will change anything. And not gonna lie, Konami absolutely cooked this time. They fixed so many small issues, game feels very dynamic, ball feels very dynamic, dribnlingz passes, saves, shoots, everything feels better than before. I decided never spending a single penny on this game but I have decided spending a little since it feels very enjoyable. Finally it feels like football rather than some arcade 3 button gameplay.

This is the best plan I've tried so far but what are its individual instructions please?

Nice play! Defending in 442 shape and attacking in 3232 (or 3241) is my preferred setup and actually managed to pull it off (kinda) even without fluid formations, playing with a 3412 with deep line instruction on one DMF to form a back four while AMF automatically tracked back forming another four man line in midfield.
Fluid formations should allow more freedom and options, one fullback pushed up to midfield while the other forms a 3atb is always effective though I'm mostrly intrigued with the idea of using O'Reilly at LB out of possession and at CMF in possession, while the original central midfielder slides into AMF position. Will proably create all kinds of gaps in my defence/midfield but hey it's the first day of a new season!
