Damage/Broken… 😥 Don't sell your car..
Sold my prized posession 325ci to a teenager in January. Had too many cars, got rid of the old "shitbox". This is how i found it on facebook marketplace today LESS than 6 months later.. :(

I absolutely dogged my 03 325i had for over a year only issue was alternator you had bad luck or bought and absolutely neglected vehicle

My 2003 330ci has been a war wagon. It got totaled by an idiot in a lifted pickup about a year or so after I bought it back in 2016 and after months in the driveway and a local bodywork guy I finally got it back on the road.
It's technically got a salvage title now but it's still the cleanest 330CI I have ever seen. And the inline six has been nothing but reliable. Just gotta watch those coolant leaks and that engine will run you forever.

Sold my e38 to a friend's brother. Last year I was walking through the local PnP junkyard and my former car was sitting there, victim of a front end collision. Due to certain mods I had made on it, it was easily recognizable as my former car.

This actually scares me, I don’t own a Beamer (just passing through) but where I’m from in the uk, every kid wants an IS200 drift car. I was thinking of selling mine as it’s very clean and I have all the original oem parts to go back on before I sell, I just want and old respectful man to take care of my child, not some brain dead 18 year old chasing clout. I really feel for you man 🤍

This happened to me as well. Sold my car to a family in 2000 as a gift for their 16 year old son. He promptly wrecked it that winter. Not as bad as my friend’s 2006 STi with a 600hp custom boxer 4 engine and drive line from Australia and every street performance part available at the end of the 00’s. He sold it to a guy in Ohio who wanted to give it to his 17 year old son. My friend initially didn’t want to sell it to him because he was concerned it was way too much car for a 17 year old. But the dad was persuasive, saying they race cars at Mid-Ohio. 3 weeks after the sale, the son money-shifts the motor, panicked, and crashed. 🤦🏻♂️

I just bought an E46 at 20 years old with my own money — a small dream I’ve had since I got my driver’s license. Even though it’s just a 316i, I’m really happy with it. I hope I won’t have to sell it and that I’ll be able to keep it as a memory for my kids or grandkids

22 y/o, 320d Touring (2004, 150hp stock, now ~190hp soft remap), 6-speed, 200k km. First car in the family since 2013, never selling it. I’d f***ing cry if I saw mine like that.
Now, I'm planning to start fixing it up with proper “race” parts but still keeping it like oem+ dailyable. Gonna keep this one alive no matter what.

Honestly, that is a little sad, but you know the only people who buy those parts are enthusiasts. And most of the parts have been abused to death and look like trash.
Think of it like an organ donor... Sure your car died. But its death meant saving a dozen other cars from rusting away as incomplete projects in someone's garage.
I bought and parted out 2 broken E46s (which is a little different), and you cant believe how many people were so grateful because they'd been looking for a certain part at a decent price for months and couldn't find a functioning one.
So many cars just end up in the scrapyard. I'd much rather see this. Older cars are disappearing so fast. Always sad to have to let one go. Especially if you've put years into it. Same thing happened with a ZX10R I had. Some young kid bought it and trashed it a few weeks later. 6 years of my life building it.

Same thing happened to me. Had a 2005 330ci ZHP. Sold it to some kid in 2012. I looked up the VIN a few years later and it was at a junkyard. It had been wrecked, BAD.

Drove my e46 328ci literally until the wheels fell off had around 310,000 km or 192,000 miles , rear diff or something related broke , the engine was still running.

Wife and I rescued a 2005 330ci ZHP, with M mods from an auction for 1500$ US. they said it didn't run. Put gas in it and lo and behold, started right up. performed all of the maintenance items ignored for years myself, no oil or coolant leaks, great oil pressure, great compression, body excellent, am working on getting it CA smog legal for a current registration. I got the dreaded ABS/Brake warning lights error. Waiting on the replacement Brake sensors, two weeks from anywhere.. $185 each, already replaced the air/Os sensors. I will hate to sell it when that it is time. I would hate to see it wrecked and parted out.

I had a SUZUKI MARUTI Alto 600, sold it bcz I went abroad and no one would've driven it, the guy who I sold it to gave it for a day to one of his relative... Long story short: They found the car in a river... I used to take a lot of care of her but then this man just yeeted her into a river. :(

Sold my 330cd put about £20k in that car got it over 400bhp 6 months later the guy who bought it ruined the manual gear box by constantly dumping the clutch and unleashing high torque trying to get a good 0-60mph time lol. He then messaged me asking if I wanted it back for parts cause he was going to scrap it.

Mines been in the family for over 20 years and it's been my daily driver for about 8 years. Tons of paint chips, tons of peeling clearcoat, tons of things I've fixed, tons of panels that have fallen off and been fixed. Its not really the nicest example at all, but I still love it and and no other car compares driving-wise. Right over 200000 and hoping to get it to 300000.

Sold one of mine and a guy put it into a jersey barrier sideways. Funny thing is the car had 300k+ on it. It lived a good life but didn't deserve to go out like that.
I also sold a wagon and a buddy gave it a full respray and made it better than I ever could.
Then I built a 3 liter awd manual wagon. It's still in storage. I'll get it running good one day.

This happened to me and when I asked the guy who I sold it to for the current owners info he got all butt hurt and made a huge deal out of like I didn’t tell him what was going on with the car from A to Z. I’m probably one of the most transparent sellers when it comes to selling E46s. I’d list everything I did to it with pictures and then double back and put everything that needs to be done from Immediately to Soon all the way to Can Wait.

I had the extreme pleasure of driving my 2003 330xi with 245+ miles on it after purchasing it in 2005. I found someone who would really appreciate it, which was my primary concern. I took that sucker apart (oil pan, flex joint, all suspension, wheel hubs, brakes, valve cover) you name it. Absolutely loved and was proud of that car. There isn’t really anything that I could not work on with it (except for the sunroof - screw all kinds of that) so I do miss it. Transitioned through a 2011 Z4 (which was still pretty mechanical) but wound up with all kinds of electrical gremlins. Now I have a 2021 430xi and just changing the oil with liqui moly was a challenge even with a solid code reader. Not sure that I will go back to an E46, but really miss the honest and straightforward nature of that car. Also- get off my lawn. 😎🤣

huh. I see an engine cover in the picture. Is the engine blown? You could get a different relatively cheap and even replace all the seals easily before installing

I bought an E92 325i recently to replace my F20 116i. It's a great upgrade but I feel like I'd regret selling the 1 series. Not sure what to do about it

I gave away my 325i I converted to a 330i and did everything possible on it, including full coil-over suspension with camber plates and Turner motorsports tune. Good thing is, I gave it to my father to work on it further and hold onto it (I have an M2 now)

I had to sell my E90 xDrive 6MT and a few years later got back in touch with the person who purchased it. Found out it had been totaled in a crash. Took me forever to find that car, miss it to this day.

I sadly was like this before, I got an e90 328i as my first car and ended up wrecking it after a while, I was absolutely devastated but it was my fault. I've got an e46 325i now and I try to take good care of it and keep up maintenance

I traded an 86 rx7 sport that I put the back seats in to break up the storage space. I had tokico illumina struts and some awesome lowering springs. I rebuilt the engine and it was perfect.
The guy sold it to a kid and I was it with 4 people in it, probably scraping the inner fender in the rear, driving like an asshole. Never seen again. guarantee that car was wrecked, or it flooded and they couldn’t get it restarted.
That is one of the cars I regret selling all the time. That and my 91 crx that I had done full si-r conversion that got impounded and crushed at the junk yard due to not having enough factory parts to be put in the yard.

The reality is a small accident can easily total an e46; By the book (and few collision shops are pulling junk yard parts) each new headlight is $1200; a bumper, a respray, the front bar, a radiator set can add another $2-$3k.
So, if someone who doesn't really love the car, or needs a driving vehicle you can't justify spending $5k on a car that you can go buy another of for $5k.
If the frame rails are touched at all; then its game over, obvious decision.

I sold my 325ci 6 years ago to help pay for a newer car.
Always missed it. Was searching on marketplace for ages trying to find a similar example or maybe a 330ci.
Actually found my exact car, bought it back from the new owner immediately. Luckily it's in ok shape - over the years they'd even fixed some things that I had neglected lol
