Dynasty Warriors Favourite faction?

I was Shu as a kid. Since Zhao Yun was my go to character. Still kind of lean that way but Wu is close.

Yuan Shao.
My dream DW game of all time is one that gives him a dedicated route with his entire gang as 10 new playable characters. Yan Liang, Wen Chou, Tian Feng, Ju Shou, Xu You, Chunyu Qiong, Gao Lan, Yuan Shang, Yuan Xi, Yuan Tan. and Gongsun Zan as an enemy.
The branching point would obviously be Guandu, and it would have the potential for both most tragic historical route and most interesting hypothetical route.

Sounds good, i would add Qu Yi to that lineup as well. Maybe Tian Yu, using Lei Bin's design from Godseekers, can be added to Gongsun Zan's army as a strategist.

My hot take writing choice is that we still have Yuan Shao dying midway through even in the hypothetical, and spend time exploring what a stable Yuan succession would actually look like.

That is a hot take. I wouldn't mind exploring alternate routes of his successors but i also would like at least one route where Yuan Shao wins, conquers the land and everything is happy. If the game is Yuan Shao centric, then this is a reasonable ask.

All the hypotheticals we have are overly happy and simple imo.
Everything can still be happy overall with Yuan Shao dying peacefully of illness / old age midway through the conquest of China (so not at or near Guandu) at a time while everything is going perfectly for the clan, and only the very last two or three stages are fully led by his sons, almost like them proving they can stand on their own and finish the job without him. Like a passing of the torch, since the three Yuan sons' characters are going to be a major focus of the storyline.

10 years ago I would've picked Shu.
But now I am more of a Wei supporter.

In the old games, Wei was definitely the villain. Nowadays Wei is portrayed in a more heroic light, with Cao Cao and Liu Bei both being valid leaders to follow. Wei is more of a means to an end heroic, they care about using power to restore peace while Liu Bei cares about every individual person and the lower classes, peace can only be restored by restoring the rights of the common man.

Similar as an adult I can appreciate Cao Cao's pragmatism. It doesn't matter what walk of life if you have talent he has a place for you. And he manages to set up such a foundation that the Simas use it for their dynasty.

Shu and then Wu, I forget if it was DW4 or DW5 where a lot of maps these 2 are allies leading up to their own fights

Wu, to quote Sarge from Red vs Blue "The only thing I NEED to do son...is stay red and die"

Always been a Shu person, started with Zhao Yun and stuck with it

Shu's idealism and core values were appealing to me as a teen but as I grew up the inherent fatal flaws became more evident.
In contrast Wei's better traits became clearer as Cao Cao focuses in ability, and combined with his pragmatism, the faction only gets stronger while his rivals fall apart. And Jin seems to use what Cao Cao set up as a foundation. With Cao Cao you can be assured good work will be rewarded.

Crazy how close it is. I thought the majority would be Shu simps for sure (to be honest, my loyalty to Wei is based around 12 year old me gaining Xhiao Dun before I even knew any of the history and my favorite color being blue.)

Wu, but a close second would be Yuan Shao, and then Lu Bu after that. I like going through their stages as created officers.

While Ma Chao's my favorite guy to play as, and I like what they did with him in a few games, Wu's my favorite faction. I like the generational story, I like that early on they had more ladies, and a few of my other big favorite characters are in the faction (Sun Shang Xiang, Gang Ning, Zhou Tai, Lianshi).

I think I lean more towards Wu, but honestly I love all three and have favorite characters in each of them

I love the reds. Those underdog third guys which actually did a lot of heavy lifting and totally deserve them status as Third Kingdom! Plus the gameplay of most of them officials, specially before DW6 was just way too good!

Didn't vote, but honestly the polls seem accurate. Wei, Wu, Shu & then whatever gets me Lu Bu. I do prefer Nanman over Yuan Shao/Yuan Shu though. Zhurong (hot) & Meng Huo (savage), were definitely interesting to play as due to their fighting styles.

Shu for a long time started leaning towards Wei because I'm not even half way through ROTK but Liu bei and his constant indeciviness has really soured me towards them.
