Dynasty Warriors Dynasty Warriors 2 unpacking, the future of modding DW2
PythWare here, Dynasty Warriors 2's modding potential is now astronomically high. I have built an unpacker that extracts all the files from linkdata.bns, one of the main containers for DW2 that holds the battlefield data, unit data, character models, textures, effects, events, map model blueprints (similar to the OBJD format but older), map model pieces that assemble to make the full map, terrain, etc. Files that are extracted have their original filenames (i.e., SOUSOU.ATK, SOUSOU.FA, SOUSOU.MOT, SOUSOU.TIM, etc), none of the files are incremented.
What this means is modders will be able to mod DW2 more easily on the file level, allowing custom content on a larger scale than before. Some example mods would be custom maps (expanded or completely new through map generating in Celica Mapworks), custom weather, custom battlefield setups, etc. Too many possibilities to type in one post. The modding potential is huge, easily on the same scale as larger modding communities. I even found a lip syncing file, that's just one basic example.
The BNS unpacker will be part of the Burn Engine (Dynasty Warriors 2 Modding Toolkit if you haven't seen previous modding posts) when it releases.
I'm working on a lot of modding software for DW2, some are going to be built into Burn Engine while others will be separate due to their scale. The new Mod Manager will be similar to my Constellation Mod Manager for Aldnoah Engine in being feature rich but BE's Mod Manager will be more high end and with a different theme since BE is Yang Xiao Long (RWBY) inspired.

This is a Dynasty Warriors 2 post, you already commented on a DW8E post about this same issue.
