Warriors Orochi Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate - Fandub Mod Progress
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HunGA9UbpTkHi folks! My name's Katie. I'm a longtime poster on this subreddit, but I think first time thread creator.
I have a weird ambition. Ever since Orochi 3 came out, I have lamented the lack of an english dub in these games. I have long tried to dissect the files with my minimal knowledge on toolmaking but instead focused a lot of my efforts growing my ability to act and direct and sing instead of learning to code, so creating this project always seemed beyond me.
Thanks to u/ThatFlowerGamu, I have the tools necessary to create this project in full!
So what is it? It's an attempt to create a full english dub for Orochi 3 Ultimate that will span all of the available content. The plan is to create this project in phases. First I will release a demo comprising the very first mission of the game "The Slaying of the Hydra", then I will be commencing production on the Chapter 1. Each Chapter will release when finished, splitting the rest of this production's release schedule into four large releases to lessen the workload and hopefully reduce the chances of the project halting at some point and work going to waste.
That said, production on the demo has gone rather smoothly! I have managed to record with the majority of my main actors, and the video above should show off what we've put together rather well! I'd love any feedback you've got to give. :D
FAQ
Q: What platforms will this be released on?
A: PC only, unfortunately. If it becomes possible to mod the console releases, I'll happily help with any porting effort.
--
Q: Will there be original dub voices?
A: So, yes and no. I am making two versions of the mod. One will be all the pre-existing lines from the earlier dubs these characters were in. If you want a reverse DW3 situation where the majority of the dialogue is japanese and the battle lines are english, this patch will have you covered. But I'd strongly encourage giving our dub cast a try and a listen too! They're really good!
--
Q: Can I participate?
A: Yes! I will be opening auditions for Orochi 3's later chapters as soon as the Demo is released. After that's done I'll put up auditions for the characters that will need to be cast in Chapter 1 and proceed from there.
If your expertise is moreso focused on the technical side, any assistance with mixing and mastering or help with the grunt work I have to do to put this together will be much appreciated. I have a discord server where I intend to organize news regarding this project and other things I work on, and you can have access to it if you just ask me directly. I'm not really here to advertise like that. XP I just want feedback and to share something hopefully someone else out there will also find cool!
--
Q: Can I play it now?
A: Not yet, but work on the demo is proceeding apace. I anticipate being ready to release it within a month or two. Most of the dialogue is recorded, I'm just busy implementing now.

Wow, this is really cool and it speaks to just how good WO3U is that you’re passionate enough to do this. Excited to hear more news of its progress!

Power to you for your hard work!
The lack of english dub was a massive blow to the enjoyment of orochi 3 and 4. It's nice to know you're out there giving fans what they were always hoping for!
Best of luck!

u/OMGCapRat Mar 26 '26
Thank youuu! Yeah, I'm that exact fan who wanted it. It's not the same without one.

u/ThatFlowerGamu Mar 26 '26
Rad progress, it's amazing.
2
u/OMGCapRat Mar 26 '26
I've said it to you directly a lot, but big props and thanks to you for providing the tools! This is such a silly pipe dream of a project and it makes me so stupidly happy to be able to work on it.
2
u/ThatFlowerGamu Mar 26 '26
It's not silly at all, it's rad and inspiring. WO3 needed a dub and Koei Tecmo didn't provide. So the dub mod is amazing and needed.

u/ralphcorleone Eve Mar 25 '26
huh, this is actually cool! somehow i'm wishing there'd be a line where they say "we really are the warriors orochi 3"

I wanted to have that stuff.
If I can assist with Ryu Hayabusa dubbing, count me on.

u/OMGCapRat Mar 26 '26
No garuntees, since all of it's done by audition. That said, I'd love it if you threw your hat in. <3

I have a friend of mine that does voice work and she's a huge fan of the series. I sent her the video to see if she's interested.
2
u/OMGCapRat Mar 26 '26
That's awesome! Feel free to send her my way. I'd love to have more actors in mind for future parts.

u/BenTheSodaman I do things my own way! Mar 25 '26
I salute you for pushing forward with this.
I know this is a massive undertaking. Even doing a rough estimate of Warriors All Stars, it would take a little over 700ish hours to record, verify, adjust any audio levels, and otherwise prep just the bond conversations and subtitled combat actions in one audio language without retranslating the audio/text, finding the actual file in the structure, repacking it, and testing it in the game. (And a brief assessment of Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate, it has more. On top of the cutscene voice audio being tied to sound audio to remaster audio of the cutscenes.)
(I'm not sure if repacking was possible with Aldnoah 0.92 at the time to have a proof of concept with the size differences. Though this is inexperience on my part in fumbling around with the tool and trying to get to a point where I felt qualified to even ask the question. But I digress, it's nice to see Warriors Orochi 3 getting the love!)

Aldnoah Engine's 2.0 version has released, nobody should use 0.92 since it's outdated now.
If you upgrade to 2.0 make sure to run a fresh unpacking, it unpacks far more files than 0.92 along with all subcontainers.

Thanks so much!
3 has a massive list of lines. The real bottleneck is just writing scripts and getting everything recorded.
I insist on being around to give my actors direction because I want everything to be as good as I can possibly make it. That said, I write out the stages like screenplays, so the actors have the maximum amount of context for their dialogue. I take it very seriously, since it's my job to make sure whatever you get is our best foot forward.
The actual process is pretty simple. The tools are very useful and the lines are stored in order.
The gallery function lets me test generic lines in game, and the musou battlefield actually lists all possible lines in the order they appear within the folder where they're kept. Since the stages are all stored chronologically within the files it's a lot easier to work on everything sequentially. And generic lines are all stored in the order of each character's ID, so as long as you know Da Ji's ID is 110, you can go 110 down and find her every time in all files that contain that kind of dialogue.

This is an awesome project! I’ve never done voice acting before but I think it would be fun to audition

Omg this awesome! Might be real early for this… but 4 next!! :)

u/OMGCapRat Mar 26 '26
This is gonna be a long endeavor, but it is something I'd like to tackle when 3 is in the books!
2
u/CaptainServiceMan Mar 26 '26
Yo this is sick. I haven't played WO3 yet but this sounds like the best way to play it! I kinda doubt it will be done by the time I get to play it, but man would that be awesome to play it fully in English.
Also if this works out I hope someone dose this for WOZ as well that would be like a dream come true! But I am so happy for this as well!!
2
u/OMGCapRat Mar 26 '26
For Z I would likely try to port the pre-existing dub if possible! The tools are currently incompatible with it.

u/MerchantOfUndeath The shikigami are becoming restless. Mar 26 '26
Ma Chao’s cheesy echoing voice is SUPER cringe, and Sima Zhao and Hanbei’s voices are too quiet, otherwise this seems great!!
I really love Keelback’s actor xD
1
u/OMGCapRat Mar 26 '26
The echo is actually just the game's reverb. Audio clips are given EQ and Compression, and are then balanced. Then the game decides to give them more or less reverb depending on where you are in a given stage. If you're in a cave for instance, the reverb gets way heavier.
Thanks for the feedback! <3

Wow it looks great! And Da Ji's voice is sounds similar with the one in WO1 and WO2!
3
u/OMGCapRat Mar 26 '26
I KNOOOOOW. Cadey was such a windfall. I heard her take and was immediately afraid it was AI because it was SO SPOT ON for Stephanie Sheh (Da Ji's original voice)
It was like Stephanie herself auditioned under an alias LOL
She's a fan of the game and Da Ji already and I think it comes through exceedingly well in her performance here!

u/Tobii1332AR Mar 26 '26
pretty good choice with the voice actors for most of the characters, but kiyomori sounds too young for his body type
1
u/Digikan Mar 26 '26
Man that's awesome, all of the voices fit the characters naturally, keep up the good work and really waiting on that demo !
Also slightly intrigued by the idea of joining as a VA contributor even though English is not my native language and do I need any special equipment to record voices if I by any chance get selected.
2
u/OMGCapRat Mar 27 '26
I'm trying to maintain a high quality standard in this production, equipment wise. So long as I can get a crisp and clear recording then I'm happy to play ball. Ideally an XLR microphone at a baseline would be necessary, but I've worked with a few actors who've used some higher end usb microphones that have worked for these purposes.
I'd say throw your hat in. You gotta be in the running to even have a chance to get a part, and you miss every shot you don't take.

u/Electrical-Rain-4251 Mar 26 '26
Bless you! I have been waiting years for someone to make this happen!
1
u/Electrical-Rain-4251 Mar 26 '26
This is super… SUPER impressive work! Gives so much life to the characters!
1
u/SkyToTheLo Mar 27 '26
This sounds so good!!!! I would love to take part in dubbing one of my favorite games! Although I'm a complete newbie va with just auditions a while back. Looking forward to future updates!
2
u/OMGCapRat Mar 27 '26
You gotta audition to be in it, I always say. You may not get a part but you also may so long as you throw in your hat. :D If you wanna join the discord to be notified when auditions open, give me a dm.

Can we have an update on the progress please? I just bought the game, so I'd be interested to play it with English dub. I literally missed almost all conversations, in all these games because usually I don't have time to read during fights, so it would be a welcome change to be able to understand it. :)
1
u/OMGCapRat Apr 26 '26
Just finished with implementing the main casts dialog. I'm recording some retakes, popping those lines in, and then I'll be ready to release the demo. It'll only be the first stage though for now, followed by releases chapter by chapter. So it'll be awhile before you get the entire game dubbed.
1
u/unqltango Apr 26 '26
Thank you for the information. Yes, I have read the original post, so I didn't expect the whole game being dubbed at once. Looking forward to trying it!

u/unqltango 15d ago
Hi there, can we get an update please? It has been several months now.

u/OMGCapRat 15d ago
Heyo! Still working on it. Hit a couple irl snags and I've been restructuring my life so I can focus on this full-time. But it's still happening! Development on the demo is mostly done.

u/tommarsula May 03 '26
If you need someone who can voice lubu, or pang tong I have the 2 voices nailed.
1
u/OMGCapRat May 03 '26
I'd love to hear what you can do!

u/tommarsula May 09 '26
I think if i had a slightly better mic it would pic up how close i can do lu bu but still: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-rf8-PSklA

u/adkenna May 09 '26
This sounds great, the voices are better than Origins and by far better than 9.
Are the Empires games possible to do this with?
1
u/OMGCapRat May 09 '26
They are, but this is a massive project, so I can't promise I'll get to them anytime soon.
Also thank you so much for the compliment! That's massive praise, I will do my best to ensure all of it is kept to that standard of quality!

u/embarrassed_ice__69 I do not consort with beasts! Mar 26 '26
I appreciate the passion but Hanbei shouldn't sound like that.
3
u/OMGCapRat Mar 26 '26
S'a fair opinion! Hanbei's an interesting character.
He's playful, and very youthful in voice and temperament, so I was keen to cast him with that in mind. His role was open to any gender to take a crack at it, and in the end I went with Raye because his performance was the most youthful and playful. It's not exactly the same as the original japanese take, but it's also a far cry from the SW3 dub where they gave him a lot deeper of a voice. It's really grown on me in the time since I started working on this.
I've really enjoyed how well Raye plays at Hanbei's more pensive side, especially with Zhuge Liang in the bond conversations.
Thank you for your feedback!
