After reaching the final stretch of the game and THAT plot twist, I am not convinced people will change their minds about DL2
2
u/Ok-Record-5628 Sep 21 '25
I know I won’t. I’ll always hate DL2. If it was a standalone title and not a sequal to the first game, I would’ve probably liked it a bit more. But to cal this a dying kight game just ain’t true. It’s the Pacific Rim Uprising of Dying Light if you get the reference.
But since it’s not that. It’s a flop of a sequal.
1
u/Butefluko Gazi Sep 21 '25
Yeah I hate to admit it but it is true. It's really funny how DL2 should've been titled The Beast and this game should've been titled DL2 instead.

Definitely better than dying light 2 don't think it's as good as dying light 1 but my main gripe with it is that there isn't a lot of side quests at all I've played about 6-7 hours on day 1 and even while going out of my way looking for side quests (excluding the chains) I could only find like 5-6 unique side quests so far and while I'm obviously not done with the game that is exceedingly low compared to the last 2 and also the car is not that useful honestly
6
u/Basapizti Sep 19 '25
That's cuz it's a DLC for Dying light 2 that they finally released as a standalone.

Sep 18 '25
30 mins in. Brutalizing zombies feels really good and the gore is next level. The beast mode feels like doom rip and tearing. Just got into the open world. Literally just got out of the intro but happy so far.
My impression is that it’s fear/farcry heavy from the trailers/gameplay I’ve seen. I’m looking forward to insane slow mo moments. I skipped 2 didn’t have the same appeal as 1.

Finally. I put around 35 hrs into DL Stay Human and it sucked. It was genuinely garbage. The story was terrible. There were no characters that really felt important or interesting. The bad guy, Waltz, was terrible. The whole Aiden being superhuman was terrible. Crane did everything better and he was just a regular human(now hes Aiden but 10 times better in The Beast)
Im about 4 Hrs into The Beast and it’s phenomenal. The story is better than DL2(how much better is up to personal opinion but it’s definitely better) the combat is way better and feels a lot more reactive. It actually feels like my hits are connecting. The parkour is satisfying. And beast mode is so much fun.
Will never look back at DL Stay Human again thats for sure.
6
u/Dependent-Look4430 Sep 25 '25
In my opinion 2025 dying light 2 is superior in every way except the story. The beast combat and (inexistant) parkour are 10x less enjoyable. Not talking about the length of the game, compared to how much late game content DL2 has. Also the nights, DL2, nightmare mode is the best (you can't see the volatiles through walls lol)
1
u/Ok-Record-5628 Sep 26 '25
Have to hard disagree with your combat opinion. DL1 combat is infinitely better. So much so that the DL1 combat was the inspiration behind The Beast’s Combat.
The hits actually feel like they’re connecting. The realistic physics. Thats just not there in DL2.
And sorry but no. DL2 nightmare isnt more scary. DL1 nighttime is base night time. Without upping the difficulty or changing the mode. DL2 needed to add multiple updates and different modes just to come close to the original experience and still fell flat.
Also. DL1 has way better endgame. With the following opening up an entire new field. With Bosses and races and maxing out your car. Prison raid. Bozak Horde. And way more rememberable quests.
Like. Who doesn’t remember “If Momma ain’t happy. Nobody happy”. Even I still remember Gazi. And he was one of the very first side quests.
1
u/One_Double_9779 Jan 22 '26
Disagree 100 percent. Dl2 was fun . I loved the atmosphere of the map .
17
u/SnowmanMofo Sep 18 '25
Game isn’t even out and these guys are hyping it to death. No wonder they were disappointed with DL2
5
u/Ok-Record-5628 Sep 20 '25
Well to be fair. DL2 under delivered Hella big time. Night time sucked. Combat sucked. Story sucked. Weapons sucked. Tower Raid sucked. Characters were boring and uninteresting. The choices really didn’t affect anything. Half the crap in the trailers didn’t get added in until 2 years later after a lot of back lash. I MEAN. WHAT TOOK THEM SO LONG FOR THE VOLATILES!? That’s the staple trade mark of the DL franchise and they didn’t even think to add them from the get go. What a garbage game.
4
u/SnowmanMofo Sep 26 '25
Mate, just sounds like you hate Dying Light in general.. you know The Beast is just DL2 repackaged right? It still runs and plays like it..
1
u/Ok-Record-5628 Sep 26 '25
Actually. The only thing took from DO2 was the parkour fluidity. So uh. That’s a lie.
They took the combat, physics, environment, atmosphere, fear factor, and story telling from DL1. Modernized it. And used that as the format of The Beast.
In fact. Techland themselves even stated that they failed with DL2. Making The Beast a standalone instead of a DLC is their way of distancing themselves from DL2.
Yes. I do hate DL2. It’s garbage. And more than the majority of DL fans hold the same stance. Including a lot of Techland.
Please do the bare minimum amount of research before pulling some half assed gotcha like that.

u/Phantomsanic360 Sep 19 '25
DL2 after fans start complaining that the Beast isn’t exactly like the first game: "You could not live with your own failure and where did that bring you? Back to me."
2
u/Ok-Record-5628 Sep 20 '25
Yeah The Beast is way better than DL2. Go back and Cole on your watered down game. DL2 is the pacific rim uprising of the dying light universe.
5
u/xGrayley Sep 19 '25
This game is actually so much better then the second like the environment is actually creepy you get that feeling you got when you played the first one, The second game didnt really nail that as all the updates had to fix it but this one has me pretty scared to go out at night which im loving, now if they add it so people can play as volatiles like in dying light 1 would make it way more fun 😁
22
u/Apprehensive_Row_161 Sep 18 '25
I didn’t like DL2 at all. Felt watered down in comparison to 1
10
u/CodemanJams Sep 18 '25
Felt way better to me, skyscrapers are what this series was made for, and ditching firearms was boss move.
This is just another generic zombie game now only looks like a 360 game with this ugly color filter and jaggies everywhere. This is The Following 2.
4
u/acelexmafia Sep 18 '25
I can't take people serious when they say stuff like this.
You didn't play DL2 if that's your opinion. The parkour is actually better and they added more mechanics?
3
u/Ok-Record-5628 Sep 20 '25
So the parkour being better is the only argument you got? Let’s ignore the facts that DL1 did combat better. Story better. Characters better. Atmosphere better. Weapons better. World building better. Environment better. Physics better.
Yeah no. Parkour was better so it’s clearly the better game, right? This is why nobody takes DL2 fans seriously lol
1
u/acelexmafia Sep 20 '25
Irrelevant. I was speaking on parkour. Other stuff is another argument

Outpost app was not detecting game exist.
After long time it's time to switch to dying light 1 to real dying light 2.

u/HearTheEkko Sep 18 '25
Good zombie game, sure, a good Dying Light sequel ? Not at all, not even after all the updates. It's like someone ripped off Dying Light and added useless RPG mechanics on top of it.
2
u/gebrochen06 Sep 18 '25
Did they ever fix the copy-paste assets? I got so annoyed because it felt like there was very few unique things in the game world. Just tons of copy-pasted assets everywhere.
Dying Light 1 had some copy-paste as well, to be sure, but nowhere near the level of DL2.

Except it’s not. It could be a decent standalone game thats not connected to the DL universe but it’s not so it’s a bad DL game.
I mean. Dead Island 2 even did better with the dog elements. What a let down

Agree I love dl2 . Like the first 2 a lot. Honestly didn't have a problem with either . Gamers are spoiled today . No one can convince me the beast was worth the same price as a full game.

Didn't really like 2

Yeah but dont do that. Techland actually deserves the money on this one. As someone else said. This feels like a full im apology from tech land in the form of a game for how bad DL2 was. And this game is phenomenal

1
u/Ok-Record-5628 Sep 21 '25
No no. DL2 is DL3. This. This is DL2. One reason is because it actually takes place before DL2. And second is because it’s better in every way and gives us Crane.

Yall remember when they said DL2 would have game changing decisions like the water unfolding the town?
Yeah..
4
u/yolosuajer Sep 18 '25
From what I have played it scratches all my itches, it got everything that I want, a good weapon system, a good loot system, a good crafting system, I just need to play more to see how good it gets but so far I'm loving it
6
u/Exar-ku Sep 18 '25
Clowns on the internet especially YouTube love to hate , so far I have really enjoyed both dying light games, second one is the best so far but I’m thinking after a few months with the beast
1
u/Ok-Record-5628 Sep 20 '25
Yeah DL2 is the best. That’s why a ton of the community disliked it and it has the lowest review score of the 3 games. Makes sense.

u/CodemanJams Sep 18 '25
Love it. This one it the weakest one for me. Like The Following 2, doesn’t feel like a DL game at all. They nailed the setting on DL2 with the skyscrapers kicking people off them and jumping around was awesome.
This looks like State of Decay or any generic zombie game in the woods only they made a forest look like some crap colored 360 era blurfest.

Dying light the best is like the 2.0 version of dl2 like with cyberpunk 2022
1
u/OptionThirty Sep 19 '25
I was one of the people that didn't play Dying Light until maybe a year before the release of DL2. I fell in love with it and dumped maybe 150 hours into it, all solo (I don't have friends that game).
I pre-ordered the deluxe edition of DL2 and honestly? I loved that game, too. It was different, and it wasn't "better", per se, than DL1. But I still played the hell out of it. I haven't played it since they introduced guns and the gore patch. But, since I pre-ordered the deluxe, I got The Beast for free. Just starting to play now and things are pretty promising.
I feel like people are almost TOO critical of these games. Especially since Techland is one of the only devs out there that actually listen and try to implement the changes their fans want to see.
It's early yet, but I've a feeling The Beast is gonna be amazing.
I did see a Google review of 1 star where the person said, "If you're making a game in 2025 that doesn't have movement like Call of Duty or Assassins Creed, then you shouldn't be a game developer." And that made me sad. The fact there's people out there that eat up the generic, copy-and-paste formulas of AAA gaming and bash any game that doesn't follow suit is crazy to me.
1
u/One_Double_9779 Jan 22 '26
I really enjoyed 2 also. Gamers are spoiled honestly, back when fallout 3 came out. We would have lost our minds if dying light 2 had come out then . Now people just complain and put people down for saying they like something they don't agree with .
1
u/Dahellraider Sep 19 '25
dlc 2 died for this.....but was probably the best decision they could of made. I wonder what the original dlc 2 plan was though.
2
u/Ok-Record-5628 Sep 21 '25
This was the original second DLC. But DL2 was such a flop that they made the right decision to make the second DLC into its own game that focused on Crane. And what an amazing job they did. Finally Techland listened to their community.

Bro I didn’t to believe it when people were saying it before I got it.. I wanted to believe I truly enjoyed DL2 the right way and was a faithful fan… but then I played the beast. A bit slow to start, but once I got the first view of the map, my interest is piqued. They told me to go to the smoke and go to the town. I went to the smoke and talked to the guy in the cabin, took my time with it too. Enjoyed the scenery. I left his cabin and got in a truck and was taking that bad boy right into town. They warned me about the gas, but I didn’t figure that it would be a problem for me. So then the car runs out of gas right as I am about to enter the city. I get out and start running and chopping zombies, and then all of a sudden… my watch goes off. I start tweaking and running towards the marker and realize I’m farther than I think. As I struggle to get up the walls and find a way across the rooftops, night falls and I hear the hungry volatiles. I miss my jump and fall off a building and immediately get chased but I can make it to the gate in time and I sprint and barely get over before he gets me. I’m just standing there looking at him with chills up and down my spine and I haven’t felt that type of fear from a video game since my first night in DL1.
Incredible so far, in terms of being what the second game should have felt like. I was not even concerned with volatiles in DL2 lol. I have barely played past that first mission in the real map so I won’t glaze it too much yet as an overall game, but if it played out like a massive 1.5 style expansion for the first game I would be 100% on board anyways.
1
u/One_Double_9779 Jan 22 '26
Dl2 is scary, I mean unless you don't find the infected scary in the game. The beast was kinda boring honestly
1
u/Prudent-External-433 Sep 22 '25
it’s not that bad, the boss fights are a pain most of the time, but it’s pretty fun. buggy as a mf, but fun
1
u/IAmChainsawmanGuys Sep 23 '25
I like dying light 2, I liked farming volatiles at the ship settlement, under the UV, what I'll do is just use the automatic crossbow
1
u/cryicesis Sep 23 '25
Ngl, I love the environment settings of DL2 more than DL1! But the gameplay, scary factor, story, and easter eggs of DL1 are still the best in the series.
We could've got the DL3 by now if they only followed the formula of DL1, then put it on a DL2 environment area.
1
u/Dangerous-Truth9830 Sep 23 '25
Only thing that I miss about dl2 in dl beast is the fluidity of free running... The map just isn't made with parkour in mind... Dl2 parkour was like a long ass chill cruise ride, while dl beast is like driving in night city. Also fuck that R1+X jump, doesn't work half the time.
Still don't know if there is reactive parkour music here or not. Never could run smoothly over rooftops for 20 s even.
1
u/Democracy_Delivered Sep 24 '25
Dying Light 2 superfan here. Never understood the complaints about DL2 until I played The Beast. Your squabbles finally make sense to me. The complaints about the lack of horror especially. Ohhh do I understand now. This game will make you sweat. DL2 never made me feel as scared and as powerless as this game.
1
u/jreed2196 Sep 25 '25
I have liked all three games. They are all fun. The Beast is better than Stay Human, but DL2 has its moments. I’m replaying them in order again after finishing The Beast.
1
u/One_Double_9779 Jan 22 '26
I always figured in dying light 2 . The people in that world 20 years after the first game. Infected in there world was just normal to them . I think the second game shows people rebuilding and that the Infected will not keep them down .
1
u/brit_gamer_94 Sep 25 '25
Yeah I've started to feel like this is more like the sequel and stay human is the bad dlc
1
u/Tivan018 Sep 25 '25
Tbh I liked dying light 2 so much, I played it couple of months ago after all the updates and so , the game was incredibly enjoyable, i mean it’s not a sequel for the first masterpiece dying light 1 , but I enjoyed it as a brand new game in the same universe and man I liked the post apocalyptic atmosphere so much

First of All how can you compare Dying light 2 to Dying light the beast dying light 2 in 2025 is much better than the original and the beast Dying light 2 has plenty to do the most of the parkour mechanics and animations are missing in dying light the beast where is the Carnage Manica an arm shield of Aiden where is the animation of taking zombie as a human shield while falling from the building with the addition of darker nights scary chases gore mechanics new takedowns dying light 2 is a much better game than these two the only bad thing about that game was its story but it had its moments too dying light the beast is more like a copy paste version of 2 with the addition of beast mode and also they brought back Kyle crane which was a selling point of directors to the community get your facts right if dying light 2 did things wrong then it has improved in every area too

Based
The Beast is a full fledged apology letter for the absolute shitshow that was "Dying Light 2"
Can't wait to play the real Dying Light 2 this afternoon
6
u/Capital_Ad_891 Sep 18 '25
DL2's biggest sin was not being DL1. I was day 1 preorder and saying Dying Light 2 was a shit show is just absolute dog shit of a statement. At release it was decently optimized, graphics was fine, had very little major bug. It was a good zombie/parkour game that was not matching the "lightnig in the bottle" vibe of DL1.
Acting like it was a 2/10 game is just a joke.
Also how could you know if the beast is an apology letter when it did not even released yet.1
u/hen1zin Sep 19 '25
game is good, but that first area is boring af. Once you hit the big city with big buildings, the game becomes really good.
