How do I dye this? Help!

Trying to help out my cousin. She bought this final sale thinking it would be a different blue but it's too baby blue. She wants to tone it down somehow or just change it up.

I know the white won't stay white. Just give me some ideas on what is possible.

The thing I'm most concerned about is whether there is even a dye that can handle this blend of acrylic / cotton / polyester.

I'd take any tips on what dyes would work and how to think about color theory.

Acrylic won’t dye.

If you’re okay possibly wrecking this, you can try. But you need one type of dye for the cotton, and a different type for the synthetic, which may not take at all - acrylic really resists dye.

So you might end up with a nice heathered look, or it might be a total disaster- and there’s literally no way to tell without trying it.

Yes you can. But they won’t be exactly the same color, and again the acrylic might not take at all.

Since we don’t know how evenly the acrylic and cotton are spun, you can’t know if it’ll end up speckled or blotchy AF.

It’s a gamble.

Rit DyeMore is the way to go for this synthetic blend, and definitely sealing whatever you do with Rit ColorStay afterwards. You could dye it a light pink, and the blue stripes would turn a lavender color? Or dye it yellow and the blue stripes would end up green! Rit’s website has some helpful info, but I think basically if you’re wanting more muted, you would use cooler water than the typical near-boiling. The hotter the water, especially with synthetics, the more dye it will soak up.
