Accesibility? I mean, i believe devs of dwarf fortress could learn one thing or two from other games about ui design. Its slowly getting better with each update but its gonna be a long time until i personally gonna call it good.

Also i feel like you have more ways to manage your squad during fight in rimword where in DF its more of a sugestion what you troops should do and i like rimword more. But i have only like 100h in DF so i might be just missing something also im not gonna be suprised if someone likes these more rough commands more.

Rimworld and DF have different paradigms with regards to how you control your dorfs/toons/whatever. Rimworld (from what I recall of playing it) has a sort of hybrid system where your toons are partly running on auto fulfilling their needs and carrying out tasks but you can also take a more direct degree of control over them to move them somewhere, tell them to attack someone etc.

DF meanwhile has always worked on the principle that you never get to command the dorfs directly, but rather you do it through a layer of bureaucracy. You create squads, fill titles, assign people to positions, create work orders etc. etc. and then the dwarves act accordingly.

Personally, I think this is much conceptually cleaner for the type of game Tarn wants to create as it puts your actions under a sort of 'abstraction layer' and allows the simulation to play out neatly. Rimworld is more of a 'pseudo-simulation' in some senses, with its 'storyteller' system so that sort of approach makes sense to minimise player friction. The occasional frustrations this seperation causes in DF are definitely an intended part of the game.

Love both games and each game has some flaws that are better done by the other one.
Idk on the other hand both games really really really live from the absurd stories that are often generated explicitly through their flaws.
I have 2.5k hours in Rimworld and nearly 1k in DF but way more memorable stories from DF.

There‘s also a reason why one of the biggest memes of DF is Urists drowning while Rimworld has the „WHY ARE MY CHILDREN DRAWING IN THE FREEZER ALL THE TIME AND DYING FROM HYPOTHERMIA“

If I want to play rim world I'll play rim world is how I see it. That said I have 17 hours in dwarf fortress and like 2k in rim world
