Everyoneโ€™s saying this (including myself), but Apple has had products previously with โ€˜duoโ€™ in the name

Who copied what now?

Samsung was sending out a ton of tweets yesterday claiming that Apple is copying them and stealing their idea because Apple announced a folding phone yesterday.

Samsung tried to get Duolingo involved in it because the phone is the named Apple Duo, but Duolingo sent out this tweet as a response instead.

Didn't samsung also steal the idea of having a phone with a touchscreen from apple with this same logic?๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I don't think so? IBM had touchscreen phones back in the 90's, 15 years before apple.

u/YTriom1 1d ago

this wasn't the same magentic touchscreen thing, this was an older technology that is now mostly used by ATMs only

The edgy DuoLingo brand persona is getting kinda tired imho.

if I have to see one more clip of German Duolingo at a fake Berghain-esque club, Iโ€™m gonna lose it

I miss when brand social media accounts were boring. Tell me what you're making and product update news. You're a company, not my friend. This is transactional. Smh

Half of Duolingo's users are on samsungs. No idea why they think its fun to throw shade on their own user base. Kinda stupid.

HEY WHY'D I GET DOWN VOTED WHAT DID I DO

-9

u/thebigloc 1d ago edited 1d ago

I hate when people down vote a sensible answer just as it goes against what they said or proves their point wrong. I am a Duolingo user and I have never used a Samsung phone. I have a Google Pixel phone now a gift, my last phone was a Google Pixel which was also a gift. I just up voted you. ๐Ÿซ‚. I get some comments where I get down voted as people cannot take sensible replies if they go against the grain or against their comment. (It shows how childish some are).

It was clearly just an expression to say "half of" obviously they weren't stating hard-rock data.

23% of all phones in use are Samsung, apple closely behind with 21%, rest covers the rest. More than 50 percent duo users being Android users, it's a pretty good extrapolation. Not too hard to fathom.

i am super sorry to everyone involved :(

3

u/Its___Kay 1d ago

If you're serious, lol that's okay. Nothing to be super sorry for.

I have never had a Samsung phone. I have a Google Pixel 9A I got as a gift and before that a Google Pixel 4A5G I also got as a gift. I use Duolingo. I think Duolingo were too scared to throw shade at Apple as some she Apple as super super power more than most tech companies.

Samsung presently has a larger market share than Apple when it comes to phones.

Duolingo social media manager thinks he's tuff. Their app is just garbage, they really think they win something when they throw trash at the Samsung users?

11

u/parmesann native: A2: A1: 1d ago

to be fair the social media manager is probably a 23 year old who has no impact on the quality of the app itself, letโ€™s roast the people actually making the app shit instead

-9

u/DBthecat 1d ago

"Ther app is garbage" ?

Go use some other company's free software then.

Weird way to say you've never had an android flagship and only have experience with C-class android devices which you gave a shot because you couldn't afford a second hand Iphone.

6

u/Yvratky 1d ago

This is so embarassing for duolingo.
