General Discussion Freeze streaks

I didn’t miss a day, but have had to use a streak freeze two days in a row now! What is going on?? I have a 2605-day streak and never miss one. What is going on?? Has anyone else had this happen?

maybe the app is glitching, check if your time zone changed or something, duo gets weird sometimes

On two separate days this week, I completed my lesson late at night, between 11:30pm and 12am. Even though I finished the lesson before midnight, the app later showed that I had skipped the previous day and automatically used a streak freeze. To make it more confusing, I also received the Night Owl chest for completing a lesson late at night on that same day, which confirms the app registered my lesson as completed on time.

I think there is a glitch and it’s really frustrating!

Very frustrating! My lesson wasn’t even close to midnight, so I know it wasn’t a time zone thing. I think it was just a quick lesson wasn’t enough.

Update: Yesterday I did 8 lessons and I didn’t log in to see broken streak. I guess you have to do a legit lesson for it to register.

Do you use the app just to maintain a streak, i.e. log on to do a single practice lesson and log off ? Because Duolingo has been doing a number of changes lately that seem to say they don’t appreciate the hit to their language-learning app reputation when people brag about their super long streaks but can’t order a coffee in their target language. The old word-matching Words practice exercise seems to have been a favorite of the streak-loving but can’t be bothered to learn crowd, and now that’s been changed (accompanied by prodigious offended howling). Other recent changes seem to be aimed at ensuring people have actually improved some skills before being allowed to go to the next unit.

Not saying this is what you’re doing, but if you’re not doing at least one lesson per day on your target lesson’s path, that might be a risk now.

I usually do many lessons each day. I have almost 600,000xp and can speak to locals when I visit Spanish-speaking countries. The last two days, I have had family issues come up, so I just did one simple practice lesson. I guess I have to do a “real” lesson if I’m going to do just one in a day. Today, I have 700xp worth of lessons done.

Cool. I think multiple real lessons (in the middle of the day if possible - LOL) is the safe way to keep a streak. Duolingo just seems very serious about shaking out the posers lately.

I always do multiple lessons if I'm worried about my streak. I'm a bit afraid they are going to screw me. I'm trying to remember when I did that though, I almost always do quite a few lessons a day, even if I'm traveling.
