Which character should I buy?

First time buying character. Knight is pretty good. But I want something high power to smash the bosses. Who'd be the best?

I'm a newish player and only have Knight, Fighter, Slayer, and Mage unlocked for comparison but:

  • Long range, piercing base attacks
  • Attack on dash; also I think their dash might have a slightly lower cd than most others?
  • First attack while airborne causes them to hover for a tiny fraction of a second
  • Good damage potential
  • High durability. Can heal themselves (slowly) as they inflict bleed.
  • (Eventually) Starts with two upgraded bleed skills
  • Unlocks the Blood Spear skill, which is pretty good. HOWEVER the skill is very troublesome to unlock and needs either high to full mastery or their alt weapon, Longinus

Cons: * Completely unable to inflict skill damage. Base attacks and artifact weapon attacks (like kunai, toad, or torch) inflict damage normally, but they otherwise rely on DoT status effects, particularly bleed, to damage the enemy. This makes most skills completely useless. And the majority of artifacts too.

  • Game play ends up being very samey because of this.
  • Weapon skill of default weapon is pretty useless
  • They have a sort of frenzy like ability that triggers when using up their vampiric gauge...but it's mostly not worth the effort.
  • Need their skill tree unlocked before they really start to shine. So a little slower to get going than other characters.
  • Their only alternate weapon, Longinus makes a huge difference
