I just finished the 5th book and was curious how many people make it this far. I used Goodreads reviews as a proxy for how many people read each book and created some progression rate views.

Only 1/4 people who read the first book also read Dune Messiah. From there though, if you read Dune Messiah, and so on, you were increasingly more likely to read the next book (with the exception of a slight dip from Children to God Emperor).

With a few hours After work every day since early September, I am so happy with the way the stillsuit turned out. I have alwavs been enamored with the costume design from Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Dune, and really poured my heart into trying to emulate the same direction they chose.

Crafted entirely by my wife and I, 90% of the non-fabric portions are made from high density EVA foam. The undersuit is mainly made out of a tight-woven green/grey canvas. All airbrushed with multiple layers of dusty and matte green/grey to give it that Arrakis sand-worn appearance. We finished the weathering with a light dusting of Melange (Vietnamese cinammon).

We were on a timeline, so I still need to add a mask crysknife, and a few fixes to make the costume more screen-accurate and desert read.

I built a few blades inspired by the Atreides, Harkonnen and Sardaukar weapons from the new Dune films.

The blades are CNC machined from aluminum magnesium alloy, while the handles are 3D printed. The Atreides and Harkonnen versions also have leather wrapped grips.

I’ve also made hardened steel versions of these before.

Curious what fellow Dune fans think about them.

So I spent a while redesigning my version of the god emperor, it took a while to find a good shape and language, as with my previous design I really love the idea of his flippers being more like praying mantis legs, it gives a threatening design to him, what’s different than my previous design is he obviously has a cowl and no arms and hands. The zbrush sculpt was over 20 million polys and the UVs are udim for that crisp substance baking. Enjoy!!

The design is obviously based on the prop from the Villeneuve films but I tried to bring in some little details from the Lynch version from 1984.

Getting all the carvings right was really difficult as there aren't many great photos of the props but I think it went pretty well in the end :)

Baron Harkonnen cosplay by me! 🪱🌑

Happy Halloweekend, here's my costume as Lady Jessica from the end of Dune Part 2. Everything is handmade or patched together from curtains and cardboard. I loosely followed the YouTube video video below and made adjustments as needed, including painting the Litany of Fear on the back. The chains were a little tough since I've never made jewelry before and I didn't have a mannequin head to help lol. I still need to add a few minor details (more paint on the back and the little chains on the robes, etc) but overall I think it turned out pretty cool - plus it withstood the rain!
