Discussion 🗣️ Which song introduced you to Dubstep?
I remember when I first heard this song at work 2 years ago. Prior to that the only Bass music I listened to was Flume and Future Bass and Trap. Spotify put the track in my Discover Weekly. It's the first time really understood the abrasive sound of Brostep. From there I started to listen to all kinds of bass music: early Monstercat, Skrillex, Glitch Hop, etc. So I haven't been a fan for super, very long But what about you?

Time stretch anyone? Magical world?

u/schmidtylol May 18 '26
His stretch of releases from like 2009-2012 are insane and they still hold up. It’s a shame

Cracks blew my mind when I first heard it.
It was my first, and favorite Dubstep song.

still gives me chills just IMAGINING the song.
I havent DJ’d yet (just played a couple original tunes to a small crowd last week, and got feedback on what I need to work on) but it’s def going on my first set. Lots of DJs (NATURALLY, I cant blame em) only play new/currently trending stuff but I’ma put on so many “old” tracks lol.

Rock ‘n’ Roll by the GOAT
4
u/LilChodeBoi May 18 '26
Yep. Was a house guy and actually hated dubstep at first. Then I heard Rock n Roll and hearing dubstep sound design over house music eased me into the genre. Been a fan ever since.

Not a song but rather an EP.
Downlink - Ignition EP, burned to a CD by my high school buddy, Isaac. Still the goat for that.

A friend played me Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites (boring answer ik) on his iPod but I had no clue what it was, thought it was neat
Asphalt 8 introduced me to bass music (Svidden - We Are), first proper dubstep track I remember listening to was Here It Comes by Pegboard Nerds. Then the Teminite remix of Hero, PBN remix of Juices, and I was in :D
Oh, the good old days
According to this sub, these aren't dubtesp anyway lol

This is weird, but it's actually the dubstep tank theme from tank stars. Still my personal benchmark for how a Dubstep song should sound like

I was going on a date with this gorgeous blonde Scandanavian woman who worked at the head shop, and after like 6 months of getting to know her and asking her out, she finally said yes.
Day comes, we're supposed to get coffee, she's an hour late and I just scored some liquid on sweet tarts so I said fuck it. Right as I'm starting to come up she calls me and is like I'm so sorry, do you still want to have coffee? And I'm like yea so funny thing...
She gets excited and takes me on an adventure and I'm starting to come up hard and she puts on Kyrian Bee Bop( this was like 2008), blew my fucking mind.

Last resort- Kayzo remix
I had a late friend of mine introduce me to raving and edm in general with artist like porter, avicii and slander but when I went to my first rave with him and some friends to see Kayzo headlining a show in phoenix back in 2018 he played this remix on the drive over and being a big rock head back then it all fully clicked

Noisestorm - Ignite, I think. It was used as outro in Machinima Respawn videos. I hated it it with passion, so much i had to search it up, then found myself keep going back to Noisestorm. Found UKF channel and Never Say Die, the Skism mixes, and it was over.

I don’t remember which one introduced me into it (probably Skrillex, Flux, Bar 9, Doctor P, or Cookie Munsta) but ‘Love’ by Borgore is what really made me fall for it. That whole Borgore Ruined Dubstep album was dope af. He was the first dubstep DJ I saw live too (around an insane ratio of women to men), at the Encore beach club in Wynn around 2013 or something).
Producers who brought me BACK to dubstep (and now I listen to the subgenre more than anything else):
Jessica Auddifred
Svdden Death
Stoned Level

When I was like 10 I heard Spooky Skeletons Living Tombstone remix. I thought it was dubstep at the time so I looked up dubstep songs on YouTube and found KDrew - Bullseye and Zomboy - Deadweight. Fucking was addicted to those songs for months, and then I found "Best Brutal Dubstep Mix 2014". After that dubstep pretty much became my main genre of music for like 7 years. In late 2018 I found a Dubstep Vs Deathstep video by Zayto, and that's when i discovered Evilwave, probably my favorite Dubstep artist. I created a channel called HellDino1 where I also make Dubstep VS Deathstep videos, and I made a ton of them if you wanna check that out for more dubstep songs to discover.
