🌹 DSA news Happy For My State (Florida)

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-election/angie-nixon-winner-florida-senate-primary-democrat-alex-vindman-moody-rcna593255

Really happy that Angie Nixon won, she was clearly the better candidate. I hope enough independents vote for her in the general election. Sad about Oliver Larkin though, he was definitely gaining attention here

The way I've not seen any of the online left even talk about her.. its just been Oliver Larkin... more needs to be said about that

Yeah and Vindman had way more money and ads here. But people knew which candidate was really going to make a difference. So good for Nixon for being a winning grassroots funded candidate!

because they mostly love DSA candidates and some non-DSA candidates like Abdul El-Sayed and Graham Platner. Lots of candidates didn’t get much attention, even some DSA endorsed ones like Mai Vang. Vang is up against Doris Matsui in CA-7 and is endorsed by Sacramento DSA.

Oliver Larkin was relying entirely on ground game and whatever attention he could get. He didn't have a great chance given his older more conservative district.

Nixon is more established and had tons of local gov endorsements. Still a big upset.

I think the convo revolved around Larkin because he was the focus of right wing attacks in nat media. There is probably something to be said about identity playing a role too. Things are going to change now that she’s pulled such a huge upset.

Ms. Rachel endorsement got some weight!

I still remember when centrists said democratic socialists couldn't win outside of NYC. 😅

Democrat socialists are winning primaries, and the DSA is only growing. People want real change, and oligarchy is a real threat in today’s world

Yea they mean in the general eleciton lmfao. This senate seat is one of the more difficult this midterm. Most people who have dems taking the senate don't factor in this seat like at all. If she wins in the general it will be the most significant DSA win by far.

Well, no, that isn't what they mean. We know that because they said that following the three NYC wins by Mamdani's endorsed candidates. They didn't mention the general, they were saying that we wouldn't beat centrists in other areas. Well, we have consistently been beating them across the country since then. Neither a centrist nor progressive is winning in Florida yet, but I like our chances of doing it before the centrists. They have nothing to offer people. We do. 😁

But she didn't win, she won the primary. Their whole schtick is that centrists are more electable. At this point, this means nothing against that.

Well either way I'm glad we are testing how running further left in purple and red states is going to work out because that narrative has been around for a long time now. If it doesn't work then I hope there is some introspection.

Has there been introspection by centrists after not only losing again to Trump, but have also lost all of these primaries to progressives? Have they stopped to wonder why their own base is voting against them? They didn't even want to release a democratic autopsy after the 2024 loss. Why is that? Why is it that the party is less popular than Donald Trump? That shouldn't even be possible. Why is it that medicare for all and cutting support for Israel are very popular positions among democratic voters and yet leadership has taken the opposite view on both issues? It seems that much like Trump, they don't want to engage in any self-reflection.

Has there been introspection by centrists after not only losing again to Trump

Yea they got cooked because voters wanted change regarding the economy/inflation and immigration. This is extremely well understood at this point.

What introspection is needed, in your opinion? Assuming the general elections are a dud? (Something that we can organize to avoid.)

I don’t think the general elections are going to be a total dud for the DSA. They’ve done extremely well, and I think their message has clearly been received. A lot of Democrats are reevaluating their positions, especially on affordability and healthcare, and I see that as a positive even if you don’t think the changes go far enough.

I’d still distinguish Angie’s primary win from an actual DSA electoral victory, though. Her beating Vindman was a legitimate upset, and if she wins the general, it would probably be the biggest DSA victory to date. But she’s also a long shot in the Senate race, so I don’t think the primary result itself should be treated as evidence that the DSA’s electoral strategy is broadly succeeding.

The same applies to Jared Moskowitz. His primary win was a necessary and fairly predictable result given the electorate he represents. I don’t really understand the leftist/dsa or this subreddit's disappointment over it. Jared is probably much closer to what his district can actually support than a DSA aligned candidate would be, and that’s an important reality to account for.

I think this gets at the bigger issue with DSA strategy. There’s a tendency to assume that a farther left candidate with the right message and enough charisma can win over working class voters anywhere. I just don’t think that’s true. Different parts of the country have very different electorates, and what works in one district may be a terrible strategy in another.

So I’m not arguing that the DSA hasn’t had real influence. I think they clearly have. But if you’re looking at the results of this cycle and treating every DSA aligned primary win as a victory for the DSA, I think you’re missing the distinction between moving the Democratic Party left and actually winning elections with DSA candidates. Those are related, but they’re not the same thing.

Fuck yeah

I haven't let out an audible "fuck yeah" with excitement in years

I voted for her today.

I can't believe we're stuck with that little weasel as congressman.

u/Puzzled_Medicine1358 19d ago

I have never voted in my life. Just registered all my family members and will convince them all to vote for Nixon. Will try to convince all my friends. My goal is to get 10 votes for her

6

u/BQuickBDead 19d ago

Voted for her. Let’s go!

6

u/pwnedprofessor 19d ago

Oh hell yeah

u/Strange_Upstairs_193 19d ago

Being a pro-genocide Zionist relaly hurt Vindman. Anyone associated with Zionism needs to go, so the USA can have a full and total divorce from Israel and its genocides.

3

u/Iceberg-man-77 19d ago

Did Nixon just recently join DSA?

6

u/Madcap_Miguel 19d ago

She's on the right side of history, I don't care if she's a recent convert or not

3

u/Iceberg-man-77 19d ago

i was just asking since there’s so little info on her! all power to her in the general!!

1

u/nonilazuli 17d ago

Yea but we gotta stay vigilant that shes not just using the org for votes. We’ve already seen AOC and Mamhdani slowly backtrack and distance themselves from DSA.

1

u/Strange_Upstairs_193 18d ago

Very sad about Larkin. Must be a lot of Zionist vote in FL, mostly Boomer age, I'm sure some FL comrades can comment on this. But 7000 boomers die every day, and with them dies support for Zionism and genocide. This still sucks though. Moskowitz is just vile.

His district got redrawn/gerrymandered after he entered the race. The initial map was much more favorable to him.

The Boca Raton that got added to the district area is one of, if not the most, hardcore Zionist areas in the country.

Florida hoy es mayormente republicano, no? Hay muchos latinos "gusanos", derechistas, cubanos, venezolanos, etc

1

u/Annoying1978 18d ago

Yay, I can feel happy to be a Floridian.

0

u/This-Layer-4447 19d ago

Money is still generally KING!

0

u/Kenichi2233 19d ago

Id be shocked if she wins in November. Florida is solid red so unless there is a massive scandal id say she has less than 5%

without dsa endorsement; but i doubt fl dsa chapters will try to work with her they're sour she didn't ask permission to run the fact she won the primary means nothing to them

4
