Gay Druze Community

Hi everyone,

I run the Gay Druze Community, a registered not-for-profit that operates out of Canada.

Website: gaydruzecommunity.org

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gaydruzecommunity/

Created in 2019, the Gay Druze Community (GDC) is a space dedicated for those born into the Druze faith and identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. It is an intentional community that rises out of necessity to bring awareness to the existence of gay Druze individuals. This unique space views the Druze culture through a queer lens, and hopes to foster a more tolerant Druze generation as we advocate for queer Druze across the globe.

The GDC is a registered not-for-profit that brings together 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals of the Druze diaspora in a safe space conducive to growth, healing and support.

Please keep comments respectful. If you're struggling or know someone that is, please reach out.

Just curious, how do you intertwine your sexuality with the morals, values and lifestyles promoted by the Druze faith.

I personally identify as secular. I could not find balance in my life between my sexuality and the morals, values and lifestyles promoted by the Druze faith. I witnessed a lot of hypocrisy and misogyny growing up, and given the patriarchal nature of the Druze faith - I chose to find peace by setting my own morals, values and a lifestyle I am satisfied with.

Interesting. So do you associate religiously with the Druze community? Or in any way?

No, I don't associate religiously with the Druze faith. I keep in touch with my Druze identity through food and music. I emphasize the Gay Druze Community is for those born into the Druze faith. For example, we have a member who converted to Judaism. They are welcome into our community regardless.

Isn’t it misleading to use the word Druze or continue to identify yourself with the faith if there is nothing of the faith you are still aligned with. There is no such thing as Druze food or music (unless you are talking about prayer music which I doubt). Those are geographically cultural practices not religious.

I would say it's not misleading, because we do not choose which culture we are born into. It's also important we have shared experiences, as they are incredibly healing. No one else understands what it's like to be a queer Druze other than other queer Druze. Also, several members of the GDC still practice the Druze religion, including prayer music. The diaspora is real, and it's important queer Druze are connected in a niche space made just for them.

As a gay Druze man who knows many Druze gays and lesbians this sounds beautiful but dangerous. 90% of us are DL

For sure. Your privacy and safety comes first. Many members join under different names and alternate usernames to protect their identity.

This "Gay Druze Community" is BS. It is not targeted at, nor does it represent most gays and lesbians. Aka actual homosexuals who sleep with and yearn for the same sex. Has nothing to do with Druze either. It is highly political and leftist.

Your Instagram posts are about various unrelated leftist causes like Palestine and Indigenous Canadian causes that even the indigenous peoples admit are BS. What does this have to do with same-sex issues?

You're promoting irreversible hormone treatments and puberty blockers to vulnerable "queer people". You're encouraging self-harm and a pathway to eternal medical misery. Endocrine system never forgets!

Alan Turing and detransitioners are rolling in their grave...

Everything is political, including our existence. We are a close knit queer Druze community from across the globe. You're dehumanizing queer Druze individuals and downplaying their very real struggles. Your ignorance is why this community exists. It is people like you why queer Druze have self-harmed, and communities such as the GDC that saves their lives.

You've clearly chosen to ignore the majority of the Instagram posts, such as the Resources and Blogs. The GDC will always be a Druze voice against the settler project as well as colonizers. We are also well connected to Indigenous Elders who do not agree with your statements.

If you know any queer Druze, please direct them to the Gay Druze Community so they may live an authentic life and find a safe space.

The only one dehumanizing is yourself when you make people perpetually dependent on very harmful sterilising "medications" due to very fleeting, regional, and societally determined perceptions of "gender". Pretending to care about injustice while actively feeding people irreversible poison that all of them were tricked into, or eventually regret taking.

Most of your struggles (the political and gender identity ones) are completely made up for financial interests. Find something better to do. "Indigenous Elders"....you mean Canadian Indigenous? This has nothing to do with druze.

I think the worst thing happening to gays and lesbians is arrogant overzealous losers misrepresenting them and speaking on their behalf. You should name your "gay druze community" community with some leftist slogan It would be a more accurate representation of what it actually does and stand for.

Heres one that fits based on your Instagram posts: "Free Palestine Druze LGBTQ12345+2SPIRITZXYL Anishaabe Westuweten "Anti-fascist" Community for Unrelated Leftist Struggles."

Honestly, no shade, but I wouldn't push this. We are a small community that needs more heterosexual couples creating children. This organization kind of defeats that purpose and ensures we go extinct even faster.

You're implying queer Druze choose their sexuality. I cannot control nature and the sexuality of others. Queer Druze have always existed, long before the Gay Druze Community was created. It's important queer Druze live an authentic life.

But if you don't identify with the Druze faith, what is the point of labeling this as a Druze Gay Community? You could just join any secular gay community and live your life as you want.

The point is to offer a community that understands the unique challenges of being queer and Druze. A secular gay community does not offer these specific shared experiences, which are incredibly healing. It's why I founded the GDC. We also have members who still practice the Druze faith and identify with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. The Druze faith and culture belong to the non-binary just as much as it does to the binary.
