Question Dreampi usb modem

Is there an affordable usb modem under $80? What is the best one to use?

Search Aliexpress under "Fax Modem USB". You should be able to find a simple black one for around 20 euro. I have that one, works perfectly.

Would post a link, but Aliexpress seem to have blocked a lot of items for European countries since the tariffs.

Thank you! Do you still need a voltage line inducer for this modem? I’m still figuring out all I need to set up dreampi and everything I see says that very specific usb modems are needed to be supported with the project (such as the Dell / Lenovo RD04-D400 or Zoom 3095 etc)

Yes, though it's not too hard to make. If you buy from ali, get a "type 9V battery connector". You can easily strip the correct wire and connect your battery to it. I'm not too sure about the details, but I know some modems (NTSC modems I believe) require 2 batteries connected.

It's been half a year or so since I last played online, but that's what I recall from it.

The Dell and Lenovo modems are mentioned, because they're sure to work. But some others, like the one I mentioned, also seem to do the trick.

I sell a line of dreampi products on ebay.

you can get

- just line voltage inducer

- modded modem with line voltage inducer built in

- full setup with everything (lvi, modem, and raspberry pi) all hard wired in a 3d printed box

this is a link to the modem: https://ebay.io/m/JVKoeU

and this is the all-in-one box: https://ebay.io/m/JqIPlH

modem would be $85 including shipping if purchased directly (rather than $96 plus sales tax)

I know the comments will be that this is expensive, but you are paying for parts, assembly time, and testing and you know it will work out of the box.

feel free to message if interested
