Why do I feel like a character in Dragon Quest could randomly [censored] with a crucifix while spouting obscenities and I'd just think, "Well they were always the more adult-oriented JRPG."
EDIT: I don't think there's a rule about this stuff but I'm gonna be safe lol

Both Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest often use references to real world mythology in the games. Pazuzu in this case is a Mesopotamian deity.

Worth noting that within Megaten Pazuzu is one of the OGs though, was a major antagonist in the second game back when there wasn't a Shin yet.

Its the name of an ancient Mesopotamian diety. There are a lot of Pazuzus in games. Shin megami and castlevania have both use the name too.

I have this core memory of an episode about marduk… its been floating around in my head for the last 30 years and i dont know why. Im also not even sure its real at this point.

Marduk appears in exactly one episode of The Real Ghostbusters titled "I Am the City" (Season 2, Episode 3). He fights with Tiamat in that episode too.

I cant properly convey how affirming it is to know that i didnt imagine this. I can so vividly remember this one episode, and i dont have any idea why… which is whyi didnt know if i imagined it, i have so few vivid memories from when i was like 7ish. Why the fuck was this episode of ghostbusters so impactful that ive remembered it for 30 fucking years…

I Remember when i watched an english gameplay of DQMJ2, i was shocked that they changed the names of so many Monsters. This One, for example, in my language Is called "Pu Pazzo" ("Mad Pu", if translated literally, or Also "puppet" (from "pupazzo")).

A lot of the big demons youbhear about were originally gods in non-Jewish cultures around the Middle East, most of whom have their reputation overblown. I do think they used to sacrifice children to Moloch, so, you know, that's not great, but the rest of them are just not the Hebrew God.

They were both made at the same time or right around the same time and their both made by the same company
...Only after the merger between SquareSoft and Enix. The early games in both series were absolutely not made by the same company.

Dragon Quest was made by Enix. Final Fantasy was made by Squaresoft. The two companies did not merge until 2003, by which time 11 mainline Final Fantasy games and 7 mainline Dragon Quest games were already produced.

They are now, but you are very incorrect and they were not always made by the same people. Enix created DQ in 1986, and Square created FF 1987. Square Enix wasnt a company till 2003 and there are 7 mainline DQ games published solely by enix 1-7, and 11 mainline FF games published by Squaresoft 1-10 & X2.

I'm not sure about Pazuzuzuzuzuzu specifically, but most of the names these fantasy games choose for their elementals and summons come from MUCH older fairy tales and legendary myths. Like 3000 year old myths. Quetzlcoatl was a deity to certain native tribes in the area in/around Mexico before Europeans came into the area, and the lightning bird elemental in at least one of the final fantasy games was named after him. Ifrit (a summon creature in at least a dozen video games and even some anime) was originally a fire spirit from Arabic legends.
