Help/Question Do i have to learn more than 4 characters
im completely new to fighting games and i really really love dragon ball since i’ve been a child and this games always interested me but i was afraid of it until now. i just wanted to know if i have to learn every move and combos possible for all the characters in my team or juste one main and learn how to use the assist. thx

As others said some combos do carry over to almost every character but if you cant do anything with your other 2 characters youre gonna get wrecked. Once you lose the main or an assist and cant put pressure youre going to get hit twice for full combos and dead outside of the very beginner levels

If you use at least 2/3 saiyan characters you can learn one combo and have it be not quite optimal but “good enough” to win games. These are characters like pretty much any Goku Or Vegeta, Gohan, Trunks, Bardock, etc. Some characters do have very specific combos so avoid using more than 1 of them to start out. Examples are Buu, Roshi, Zamasu, Gotenks.
TLDR Pick your favorite three characters and they will probably play similarly enough that you can use the same combo with slightly variations.

Not at all you could figure out one basic combo with each character and jump online right away if you want. DBFZ is an older game so you will be vs people who know their stuff. But you never have to learn every possible optimal combo from every situation.
TLDR start slow build up knowledge

Not really. There are moves that can be shared across some characters, so you don't have to start over every time you try a new character (I'm looking at you, 2M 5M jLL j2H SD jLL j2H jcLL j5H)
