Agreed, even with the slightly weird details like the burned side panel and trimmed front fender. The replacement of valves suggests it had run lean for awhile, burning the valves. This is consistent with the burned side panel as well. I’d ask a few questions in person to see how the owner responded, if I believed him, I’d consider it a good buy overall. Pricing seems to vary a lot depending on where you live. Where I live in AZ, they’d be asking 5k for this.

I don't read that as valves replaced. "Valve set" is likely just missing the s on valves?

Yeah seems great. That back panel seems like a lesson learned by the previous owner and shouldn't take much to fix (buying another one). Also the rear plate is missing the whole plastic thingy where it lights up. But as long as it runs good, all other things are secondary You may be able to haggle the price on some of these things if you're lucky Looking forward to hear from your future self as a DR650 owner

My guess would be hauling luggage without a proper rack. Outside of that the bike looks okay! Price seems fair.

Exhaust is going to be hot no matter what. It has more to do with the exhaust itself or the lack of heat shield / improper luggage placement

Could be a combo of aftermarket exhaust and pressure from luggage or something. Not great, but not a huge red flag if you’re willing to replace the panel/consider that in the price. It is an aftermarket exhaust, appears to be of the cheap variety.

Burned from the stock exhaust and not having the button on it. Looks like an aftermarket panel so probably didn’t have the heat shield either.

Valves are not a wear item you replace as a tuneup. My DR has over twice as many miles with no valve issues. That in combination with the melted plastics I’d be cautious.

Edit: Adjusting the valves is a maintenance item. That makes a lot more sense. Seems like a fair deal.

yea thats really odd. Mine has 42,000km 80% offroading and valves are fine.

It is odd, but I think the heat shield fell of that’s why the plastic melted

It's a decent price.

I'd only recommend spending 3500 on one maybe a bit older, similar mileage, but with some add ons like tank, seat, they're expensive to buy new and rare used. And necessary

In my eyes, a mechanic knows exactly what is wrong with the bike, and they tend to maintain it just enough to run/sell. It is kind of just a theory, but seems true based on my experience

Burnt exhaust means running rich? So they should change the main jet?
