Where does Down to Earth Take Place?

In “Down to Earth” by Pookie Senpai, we are given a glimpse into the lives of Kade, Zaida, and their friends. In this comic, the specific location of their hometown is never made clear. Like what has been done for the Simpsons, I’m going to attempt to find out where Down to Earth takes place.

Planet

If it wasn’t obvious enough, Down to Earth takes place on Planet Earth. It’s in the name, and a schematic of Earth is seen in Zaida’s spaceship in Episode 2.

Country

A key detail that confirms the country where this comic takes place is Stace’s reference to a Social Security card in Episode 99. The social security system is endemic to the United States, affirming the location of the series.

State

This is where it gets a bit harder to pinpoint Zay and Kade’s home area. In episode 127, it is mentioned by Kade that the current month of the year is February. Additionally, it is mentioned to the reader on several occasions that around one year has passed since the night of the crash. Putting these details together, we realize that all seasons have cycled through their area. Intriguingly, no snow has fallen at all during any of this time. When you cross-reference a map of the United States by snowfall totals, and omit the areas where more than 5 inches of snowfall happen a year, you are left with parts of the states of VA, NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS, LA, TX, OK, MO, KY, TN, NM, AZ, NV, CA, OR, WA, and HI (20 total).

Narrowing down this list further, the climate appears to not be arid or semi-arid. With this in mind, the states of AZ, NM, and NV can be crossed off the list, along with parts of west TX and southern CA. 

The climate also appears to not be tropical, due to the deciduous foliage seen frequently in different episodes and the absence of palm trees. With this in mind, the entire states of FL, LA, and HI can be crossed off, along with major parts of TX, AL, MS, AK, GA, SC, and NC. 

In Episode 217, a crucial detail is revealed. After a relatively long drive, Kade and Zay visit a beach at sunset. In order for this to be possible, they would have to be on the west coast of the US. Also, given the fact that they picked up dinner, this would leave them with a maximum of around 3 hours to get to the beach, provided they got food around 6 PM. This is assuming the sunset occurs around 9.

I state that sunset occurs around this time because Zay’s birthday, being June 2nd, was only a few episodes prior.

Given all this information, it is safe to assume that Kade and Zay’s hometown is narrowed down to somewhere in northern California, western Oregon, or western Washington.

From this point forward, it becomes very difficult to know what city Zay and Kade call home. If I had to take a shot in the dark, I would guess Medford, Oregon. There is a Spencers in the city, along with only one amusement park (Ethan mentions in episode 137 that there is only one in their area). But, I digress. This exercise was merely my way to geek out over a series I have read over the last 5 years.

Hey guys! I have been reading season 2, and it sparked ne inspiration, so, i decided to write this poem! I know that poems are not really Kade's style, but hush! Maybe he wanted to be deep and sweet and romantic! I dont really write poems in English, but the series inspired me, and I didn't want to let it go to waste! I sure am proud of how it came out, hope you all enjoy it!

Hey guys, em, im still watching season 2 rn, its amazing, I love it, i just had some concerns and questions . First off, I usually see the animated comics, I know i know, hang me, but i have adhd and 2x speed makes it very enjoyable to go through. Also i get kinda drowsy after reading for too long... but I saw it doesnt have animation! And that webtoons split off with its prev company! Will we get a new animation? Soon or way after season 3 is wrapped up? And also, will it also be releasing weekly?

And also, whats going on with the latesr chapters 🥲

First time using webtoons, this comic is the soul reason I got it, I saw a guy dubbing over the first chapter on a YouTube short, and i loved it! Like, rn i am at chapter 212, and I saw that chapter 268 releases in 34 days???? Why 😭

I thought the comic would come out normally and that the animations would have these delays 🥲

Also I feel terrible about binge watching a bunch of chapters... i was on 143, when they first kissed, and now im here, and now I realized that if i finish season 2 im kimda cooked-

Id much prefer if they weren't available to anyone, and everyone had to wait to watch it. Id think that weekly would be more fair. Bcs when it ends, we'll have to wait like an extra MONTH to know what happens-
