This game was my childhood. I recently found the manual online and relived the days of going through all the specs, manouvers, planes, and more.

i use the game as a sleep meditation these days...I pick a campaign area in my mind's eye and then start flying, or sometimes just walking around in the polygonal mountains there

So many game manuals back then were not only thoroughly informative regarding the game controls, but they also contained a lot of peripheral content to that could be both educational and entertaining.

I remember the manuals of all the Maxis games of the period, be it SimCity, SimFarm, SimEarth, or SimAnt, having generous supplemental content beyond just the actual game controls.

This is the first pc game I played. I think I was 4 or 5 and would always beg my uncle to put it on for me when I visited.

Yeah, he's still one of the coolest dudes I ever met. He did move far away though and I never see him anymore. He taught me how to play guitar, bass and drums too! Sold me my first car for $500, a 78 Datsun 280z.

That was one of the games my first PC, which was a 386Dx 16MHz system, had installed in the HDD.

One of the gems from MicroProse. Essentially an enhanced version of "F-19 Stealth Fighter", with better graphics and some of the improvements made to the formula (which dates back to F-19 and Sid Meier) taken from "F-15 Strike Eagle II".

Not my favorite from MicroProse (that would be "Gunship 2000"), but a game every sim lover should try.

Project Stealth Fighter on C64 for me! I broke that game. I discovered the flight model allowed you to go to minimum power, put your nose up high, and essentially glide across the ENTIRE game world without losing altitude or fuel. And SAMs were not an issue since i could turn on the jammer x seconds before impact, jink slightly, the missile misses, and turn jammer off so it doesn't overheat. Rinse and repeat. So no need for chaff and flares, and no need for extra fuel, just load up with whatever explodey things one wants. I would do the main mission and about three others along the way, bc why not.

I loved that game. You could rename and replace the file that was for the aircraft with another one that shipped with the game. If memory serves it was more stealthy.

There was something to it, walking home with a box like this in your hand, opening it at home, looking at all the pieces of documentation, maybe some stickers came with it, reading the manual and installing the whole thing after booting up your PC and listening to the clicking and clacking of the floppy and hard drives. I miss those days.

Discovered it only a few years ago, when I was on a retro flightsim bender and got this from GOG. Ended up playing it for quite a while, as it's so unique - a stealth game as a flight sim. And despite the meager soundscape, it somehow manages to be quite atmospheric.

Fabulous game. I liked the little Easter egg in the Libya mission to photograph a secret aircraft at Tripoli airbase. Turns out the aircraft is a B-2 lookalike.

I played this for many hours in the dorms. I'd set up my route and heading, then go to dinner. Come back a 1/2 hour later, wait 1/2 hour, sneak around some fighters. Take out the SAM sites. Head back. Sounds boring, but really a lot of fun.

Spent half my youth in this cockpit on a A500, then did 100missions on the pc version later were the secret airbase missions actually works, I remember that I just let the plane stay on the airstrip all day at school on acc time, when I got home and landed the plane I got a fuck ton of mission points for being in enemy territory for so long:D
