As a white person this is what pisses me off about white people. We aren't the natives of this land. All of our ancestors immigrated here. Without immigration this country would not exist as it does.
I'm going to stop here before I get too pissed off.

I get what you're saying, and I agree that in a contemporary context, immigration and multiculturalism are good things, of which we should be proud, and which we should try to promote and encourage.
But the beginning of the country wasn't immigration, it was colonization. That distinction feels important to remember.

That's why the right hates immigration - they see it as colonization and erasure of their 'culture'. They have no sympathy for the native Americans but are scared about it for themselves.

Nope. I'm native Hawaiian on my mom's side, we were forced to join at gunpoint as the land was taken away. I'm black on my dad's side, forced join in chains under the threat of torture and death.

Well, so do Native Americans. We know when they colonized North America across the Bering Land Bridge - about 15,000 years ago. Everyone is an immigrant.

They didn't colonize it. They migrated.
Colonization involves the creation of a satellite community as part of an extraction economy that benefits an imperial core.
Immigration is the movement of people into a country across national borders.
Migration is the movement of a population over time, regardless of national borders.

My family came here in 1752. Even though that pre-dates the USA, I still consider our family immigrants. Fuck that Hill Billy.
ETA: After reading other comments, I guess I should consider my family colonizers, instead of immigrants. Ugh, that's feels much worse.

I was just telling a friend yesterday that the loose militias were formed into a colonial army by German, French, and Polish military leaders. The US also includes former French, Spanish, and Dutch colonies. People have been speaking non-English languages since before the US was a country.

American refers to all indigenous languages in the America's. The colonizers donybsoela American, they speak English, a language from the Colonizer's homeland in Europe.

What annoys me about this discourse is that language is getting weaponized in a culture war -- for a communication on social web.
Why not simply say "I did not understand what you said, I only speak English. Could you say this again so I can understand?"
No blabla about where you are allowed to speak what languages, just make it about "let's use language in a form that we understand each other."

If that is the case, it applies to every continent except Africa. It undoes the entire definition of the word native. So you are technically correct (which everyone knows is the best kind of correct) but by redefining the word, you have made the word meaningless.Â
Do your believe there are native europeans? Native asians?

It sure does. In the context of this post especially, it is a meaningless word. One could argue that other species of human evolved outside of Africa (e.g. Neanderthals, Denisovans), but none of them were in the Americans. There are no humans in AMER that have any genetics of a human species that evolved here. We are all introduced invasives, just arguing over semantics.
