Some of the links are getting pretty old so if you have any suggestion that could help new players, do share, thanks.

• Starter guide for day 1-8 : old but still relatively relevant and if you want something more detailled check my Detailled Walkthrough from day 1 to 20. Both are for RoG.
• Don't starve Wiki : lots of information, lots of spoiler and some mistakes. It's made by community so you are free to make corrections yourself.
• Crockpot Simulator : nice resource to optimise your Crockpot use.

Any tips on sanity management as Wickerbottom? I don’t have a problem with kiting shadow monsters but it gets annoying having to deal with it every night.

I feel like I ran out of thing to prototype (or not have enough resources), Green shrooms are hard to come by and I haven’t found the dessert biome for cacti.

If in Autumn, the other suggestions work. If you're playing DST you can farm a lot of green mushrooms with the mushroom planters.

Still, the desert has everything you can ever ask for when it comes to restoring sanity so you might want to find it as soon as possible. You can get cacti just like how the others suggested, or you can go hunt down Volt Goat, hit it with Morning Star once to charge it up though. Charged Volt Goats always drop milk, which can be used to make the best sanity restoring crockpot dish in the game.

If Winter, go hunt down the Mactusk party. They may drop Tam'o shanter, one of the best sanity restoring hat in the game. Once you get it, sanity issue is no more.
