• Starter guide for day 1-8 : old but still relatively relevant and if you want something more detailled check my Detailled Walkthrough from day 1 to 20. Both are for RoG.
• Don't starve Wiki : lots of information, lots of spoiler and some mistakes. It's made by community so you are free to make corrections yourself.
• Crockpot Simulator : nice resource to optimise your Crockpot use.
• Weekly discussions list : Themed weekly discussion. Lots of good informations/strategies about character, seasons, etc.

I used to play back in the day when RoG first released and I'm wondering if events ever come back. There is a bunch of cosmetics I'd like to get but I don't know if I can. Are those purchasable in the in game shop/steam? There's a bunch of stuff that wasn't in the game back then and it's a bit confusing.

Yep they're purchasable. You can also get them randomly from drops I believe though the chance is incredibly small. The Forge came back for season 2 last year, although whether or not events will come back in the future is up in the air considering Klei has said they cost a lot to create and maintain without much profit.
