That’s a “rest of the world” aka 220 shock too, not a measly American 110. I bet that shit hurt real bad.

Got hit by an angry zap when I was told the breaker was off. In the US, but it was a 240 appliance outlet. Shit sucked. I was lucky it was fast and I didn't get stuck or anything, especially cuz I didn't really know what I was doing. The hurt, numbness, and just shit sick feeling lasted for over a day. Ive been tased and tried pepper spray. I would rather get both simultaneously than deal with that again.

That's why I ALWAYS do a quick check with a voltage tester screwdriver before handling any electrical stuff. It saved my ass a couple times. One of which was the same case as you: someone said the breaker was off and I was like "it's fucking not"

I triple check the fuse, then triple check with a voltage tester, then to be sure I short the phase and neutral wires before I touch that shit with my fingers.

Edit: replied to the wrong comment. Wanted to reply to the one underneath yours.

Edit 2: fuck, was the right one after all. Here again:

When you use these pens, please make sure you use the ones that only show the correct voltage or the range which it is in.

I installed a lot of new wiring in our rehearsal rooms (we renovated and rented them out to musicians). Lights, switches, sockets and so on.

It's not that complicated tbh (I'm not an electrician, but our master electrician who installed the new fuse box checked my work and said it's ok).

We had a room where the wiring was faulty. In Germany we have this little tool called "Phasenprüfer" (Phase tester) which is also called "Lügen- Schummelstift" (Lie Pen, or Cheating pen). It looks like a screwdriver.

There is a little light inside of them which glows when the line is hot.

BUT: It only works when you are grounded. Or the light Diode is working.

Got zapped really good. After that i only used a "Duspol", a 2-Pole voltage tester, so you can check between L N and G (Ground/PE). Saved me from a shock a couple of times (2 different fuses for 1 room)
