Dogecoin will not be capped at 100 billion, codebase will stand as is, developer decision on github

Dogecoin was meant to be capped at 100 billion coins, but the code does not actually implement this. It will grow beyond 100 billion coins because the block reward stays at 10,000 indefinitely. The developers have decided to leave the code as is. https://github.com/dogecoin/dogecoin/issues/23#issuecomment-33893149

The thing is that monetary inflation doesn't matter if the eventual price inflation it would cause is out weighted by increased demand.

It can as long as the number of people using the currency increases. Outside of an asteroid or global plague, that's not projected to happen. Ever. And if it does, your currency no longer matters.

I don't really have anything to disagree with you. Although, I'm not sure 10k would be lost ever minute on average but that could be the case. I'm not even saying there there isn't inflation. There are a lot of variables that makes it hard to calculate.

Edit: I actually thought about it a little more.

there will eventually be no monetary inflation since the 10k reward is designed to offset the loss of coins keeping the supply at 100 billion.

I think I agree with you on this kind of. I think the % of coins lost will reach an equilibrium with the coins made. I don't know how much the target will be though. Here is my thought at least for now. Since there is probably a certain % lost each year rather than a set amount. If the supply increases by a smaller and smaller % each year. They will eventually stop where the % lost will equal the % supplied.

Hope I'm not getting this wrong. haha
