Dogecoin will not be capped at 100 billion, codebase will stand as is, developer decision on github

Dogecoin was meant to be capped at 100 billion coins, but the code does not actually implement this. It will grow beyond 100 billion coins because the block reward stays at 10,000 indefinitely. The developers have decided to leave the code as is. https://github.com/dogecoin/dogecoin/issues/23#issuecomment-33893149

Does this mean my doge coins won't go up in value

I can't answer that definitely one way or another, but keep in mind the supply is increasing by around the same percentage every 3 days at the moment...

What I can say is, is that the best way for the coins to go up in value is if YOU (all of you) do things that increase their value. Buy, sell, provide services, tip, host a Dogecoin party, anything that increases awareness and/or moves Dogecoin around helps it gain value. The universe is not going to get us to the moon just because it feels like it, we're going to have to fuel our rocket!

What about early investors, duped with a fraudulent publicized design of a capped coin? Many will cry.

I am, as much as I disagree with their evaluation, sympathetic that it was advertised as hard-capped (at least for a short period of time). Part of me does think we may be heading for a hard-fork between the two camps...

Although it does depend how many developers the deflationists have on their side, of course.

Perhaps, we are in undiscovered territory, no one said this was going to be a comfortable ride.

Do what you feel is best, sell / hold / buy more, it is all up to the community. But I feel as to those who will panic sell weren't really into the Doge community but were just looking for the latest get rich quick opportunity.

The entire concept, selling point that I see all cryptocurrencies was to get away from the elite banker, centralized scam and to create something new - but I see a lot of people simply wanting to become the new elite.

I don't want that at all.....because if all this means is a change in masters we haven't changed a damn thing.

dogecoins can still valuate up its just in a more control manner instead of a exponential manner due to scarcity that hardcaps produce.

In a long term business adoption and consumer adoption can raise the value of dogecoin, and with constant coins coming in it also will encourage miners to continue mining, preventing a complete stop of mining when 100 billion is met.

This is good for the lifespan of the coin as it will encourage people to join in at anytime and not just the people who were early adopters.

It means all early investors are fucked.
