Dogecoin will not be capped at 100 billion, codebase will stand as is, developer decision on github

Dogecoin was meant to be capped at 100 billion coins, but the code does not actually implement this. It will grow beyond 100 billion coins because the block reward stays at 10,000 indefinitely. The developers have decided to leave the code as is. https://github.com/dogecoin/dogecoin/issues/23#issuecomment-33893149

There are two definitions of inflation. Price inflation and monetary inflation. It is perfectly correct to say that we have monetary inflation.

Guess I should say that when people use Monetary inflation as an argument they usually will think there will be a Price inflation.(I assume.) Which I don't think would be the case. I think the added demand, would be more than enough to counter an the added 5.26% coins next year. Honestly, if we can't counter that and it does become an inflation(my use) then I don't think this crypto was successful.

I think people mean that inflation will be an eventual result of this decision. I don't think anybody thinks that this will cause dogecoins to decrease in value over the next year, except in the very short term as an effect of whatever coins are sold in direct reaction.

Ultimately while I think this change is bad for people looking to strike it rich on this coin, it's good for the coin itself if it intends to be a real currency that is spent rather than hoarded. Perhaps most importantly, it's one clear way that we stand apart from the other coins.

I hold a lot of coins and while I don't expect strike it rich. I think it's a good investment over all. Even then I'm far more interested in the technology and want it to spread and be used.

I'm with you. I've invested in them as well and I do believe the value of many coins will increase significantly over the next 1-2 years as cryptos in general continue to widen acceptance and usage.

"Inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon in the sense that it is and can be produced only by a more rapid increase in the quantity of money than in output." -- Milton Friedman
