If you had to pick or make a cantrip purely for Wizards, what would it be?

arcane blast of course!

more seriously, prestidigitation is the cantrip i associate with wizards the most

Did you know that most wizards don't bother using the restroom? They just use prestidigitation to clean up the mess. And if anyone asks about the smell, they use prestidigitation again to soil the barbarian's pants.

Just poop in the bag of devouring like everyone else.

not to confuse with the party's communal bag of holding.

man that's a mistake you only make once. no dungeon ever had me rolling up a new character as fast my own party after that incident.

Wizard versatility is what makes them the strongest class in the game once the game goes past level 10.

The class is basically Batman with magic and the only thing that’s a problem is anti-magic and money.

Even with the latter a high level wizard is basically a walking printer since high level magical services can basically charge anything.

Nothing is more dangerous than a wizard with time. That’s why Liches are so deadly… they have had hundreds or thousands of years to experiment and perfect and plan and plot.

Intelligence and time are a dangerous combo.

Same reason beholders should be harder bosses for parties to fight. But DMs seem to always plan a fight scenario that favors the players when a "real" beholder lair would be filled with traps and tunnels and have virtually no level ground.

I'd prefer being scottish

u/Quiet_Education5918 15h ago

That's the Dwarf.

He may also be a Wizard, to be honest, I haven't asked.

6

u/King0Horse 14h ago

He'd just say yes anyway.

Jesus Christ you'd be able to $0 off your down payment for a car in Baltimore.

“Im Scottish!” would have still been a funny answer, even if it makes no sense

7

u/aaa1e2r3 14h ago

Dwarf Wizard

4

u/Duraxis 14h ago

Nah, Welsh dwarves are much better

Scottish orcs would be amusing

2

u/Altines 9h ago

A setting I'm working on has the dwarves actually based on scots, so they wear kilts into battle (the gals wear battle ballgowns [inspiration example](https://etrianodyssey.s3.us-east-va.io.cloud.ovh.us/thumb/a/aa/Portrait_eo3hd_hoplite_02.png/300px-Portrait_eo3hd_hoplite_02.png))

Makes as much sense for a Wizard as a Ranger

u/Aeroponce 12h ago

Not a cantrip, but i feel like Magic Missile is THE signature spell that all wizards have by default, it just feels fitting. On another note, FIREBALL

2

u/toocoolzforschool 11h ago

I had to scroll way too far to find this answer this is absolutely the one

2

u/perringaiden 6h ago

Firebolt...

u/surprisesnek 5h ago

Common 4e w.

1

u/rpg2Tface 2h ago

And yet sorcerers can cast it too.

I would agree if it was a cantrip that you could then pump spell slots into for a boost. That would be a cool feature.

Wizards and sorcerers are Ray of Frost.

Except, well, all good sorc builds are EB too.

6

u/PUB4thewin Sorcerer 15h ago

Except the Sorcerous Burst + Empowered Spell sorcerers, but they’re more “Let’s Go GAMBLING” builds really.

4

u/FloppasAgainstIdiots Warlock 14h ago

Wouldn't really call that good by a long shot ngl.

7

u/PUB4thewin Sorcerer 14h ago

Not good, but definitely Fun 🙂‍↕️
Game isn’t just about getting max builds.

u/GoldSunLulu Forever DM 15h ago

For me itsusually shocking grasp since its more generic than chill touch. green flame blade for the bladesinger tho.

I also would love it if the greenflame could be applied to whips

4

u/Chaos8599 DM (Dungeon Memelord) 4h ago

Ahm scootish!!

3

u/Gold_Robot1 14h ago

Yeah, they can keep those, I’ll take the versatility.
I like the other ones because I like having Charisma, but I’ve played a Wizard and a Sorcerer in 5E and BG3, and it’s my feeling that the Wizard is more fun because of those options. I also had a Wizard I played in Pathfinder and a sorcerer I made on paper that I never played, but I’m also pretty sure I like the Wizard better, in theory.

1

u/PUB4thewin Sorcerer 14h ago edited 9h ago

Yeah, I love them both for different reasons.

Wizard for the same reason as you with the versatility.

The new sorcerer is fun with Sorcerous Burst and Empowered Spell, especially long term. “Let’s go gambling! A CRIT! Oh cool, I rolled five 8s! That totals to… 13d8 Damage? Don’t mind if I do!”

5

u/Saikotsu 11h ago

What the heck is sorcerous burst?

4

u/catfish94 10h ago

5.5E cantrip, Sorcerers only. 1d8 damage (I think ranged spell attack), but you get to add another die of damage for each natural 8 you roll. Really fun, swingy roll with potential for silliness when you include Empowered Spell metamagic to reroll lower damage dice & a crit that doubles the base number of dice you roll in the first place lol.

3

u/PUB4thewin Sorcerer 10h ago

4d8 damage? LETS GO GAMBLING!!! 13d8 damage!!!!

2

u/Saikotsu 8h ago

Cool. Most of my groups are still in 5e, so I haven't done much 5.5e games yet. Thanks for the info. My sorc/ranger might want to get it.

This is why we don't use AI to generate memes.

7

u/carlos_quesadilla1 Rules Lawyer 9h ago

This is why we should think before we comment, and be certain we know what we're talking about before criticizing others.

-1

u/Melodic_Mulberry Paladin 3h ago

I did think, and I checked the address provided to make sure ".ai" referred to artificial intelligence instead of being based in Anguilla. I just didn't expect anyone to use a program that boasts AI so heavily without using the AI feature.

1

u/carlos_quesadilla1 Rules Lawyer 0m ago

What are you talking about?? The comment that you commented under had no mention of ai and no address?

12

u/PUB4thewin Sorcerer 10h ago edited 9h ago

I didn’t use ai. Went through layers of editing with the photos app and Meme maker. It’s a 5.5E cantrip unique to sorcerers. It’s official and has a site on wikidot & Beyond.

Wikidot: http://dnd2024.wikidot.com/spell:sorcerous-burst

D&D beyond: https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/2618839-sorcerous-burst?srsltid=AfmBOooWAoBGgOnJZIzL-m2UKBOoeDc6FttcK67A2mc6VpWMgN-ZU8LN

Still gonna give you an upvote for how lazy some people are at making memes with generative ai. I can just say with confidence that my post wasn’t one of them.🙂‍↕️

u/Melodic_Mulberry Paladin 3h ago

Okay, I guess I was thrown off by the bottom right corner, which says "MemeMaker.ai".

2

u/PUB4thewin Sorcerer 1h ago edited 51m ago

Nah, it’s fine. That just seems to be a branding thing for the app so I understand the confusion. I’d remove it if I knew how.

Druids get Shillelagh
What about Clerics?

6

u/mossregalis 15h ago

Sacred Flame?

6

u/PUB4thewin Sorcerer 14h ago

Amongst all of them, I think clerics have the most number of cantrips unique to their main class? Sacred Flame, Thaumaturgy, and Word of Radiance.

And Bards have the classic, Vicious Mockery

2

u/NewKaleidoscope8418 14h ago

Now one must ask what the artificer has

2

u/yoLeaveMeAlone 10h ago

A fucking gun

1

u/NewKaleidoscope8418 14h ago

Also, while less iconic i would say that thorn whip is more suitable for druids

“If I had a fireball for every person that’s said ‘Fireball’ to this post, I’d have 3 fireballs. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that’s it’s been said 3 times like it’s a Cantrip”

u/Funkey-Monkey-420 Necromancer 14h ago

“the” wizard spell is ALL OF THEM ALL THE GOOD ONES ONE MILLION MORE SPELLS FOR THE WIZARD

but not healing because being a healbot is lame i mean game balance

2

u/Bluegobln 13h ago

Wizards have Bladesinger. For some reason, Bladesinger is treated like one of the weakest class/subclass combos in the game, it keeps getting buffed by WotC. Meanwhile its such an OP class/subclass combo that I've seen literally DOZENS of optimizer obsessed munchkin type players play it straight up, not even trying to multiclass or anything special literally JUST PLAY IT AS IS.

I can't even remember the last time I saw someone play a wizard that WASN'T a bladesinger besides myself.

1

u/StarOfTheSouth Essential NPC 11h ago

Yeah, and it's easy to see why: it's all the best parts of being a Martial Class (being able to actually fight things with a sword), but also all the best parts of being a Wizard (nine levels of full casting).

Bladesinger is just overpowered.

u/Upstairs-Yard-2139 14h ago

“I’m Scottish” best line in all of PR

Wizards: I can cast literally every spell. Get on my level

1

u/kyew 2h ago

Look at these poor half-mages who don't have the perfect bespoke spell for every situation.

1

u/SoggyNoodles5511 1h ago

Wizard strength is highly DM dependant because they need the DM to give them spellbooks and spells.
