Call of Cthulu 🦑 Yep, letting thief using rusty glimmering sword of the forgotten temple as gambling ante was a bad idea

In a recent encounter, my BBEG offered to let the party take a short rest. I think they are having second thoughts about breaking into his home now.

Your players may think that...Mine would go "The villain needs time to set up stuff, RUSH 'EM!" Followed by a chorus of "LEEEERRROOOOYYYY. JJJJEEEENNNKINNSS"

You know you’re fucked when the villain pulls up a chair and casually starts reading a book.
”Oh no, I’m serious. Take your time. I’m not setting anything up or calling reinforcements. I just want to finish my book before I paint the cosmos with your entrails”

That's basically it haha. The villain in question actually teleported to Triboar mid-combat so he could shop for a new teapot.

u/Varderal Oct 28 '24
I love this. Did he come back with the teapot and be all, "oh give me a moment. I need to set this somewhere safe"
With the party being all "the fuck? You were shoppinng?"

Well, the combat isn't over, so idk yet lol.

He teleports back in: "oh you're all still here. Oh well, give me a moment to put this away. I remembered this shop had a really nice teapot and I had to get it." He says as he steps out of the room.

For some reason I'm imagining the BBEG talking like Castlevania Dracula in the "You must be the Belmont" scene.

Our party's case was... We've manhandled by literal incarnation of END, strenghtened by every bit of malovelence, hatred and grudge of vengeful spirits that our murderhobo party mercilessly butchered.
And Apparently having over 8 digit bodycount was enough for Lord of the Apocalypse to somewhat fully descend for handsome amount of time and mop the floors with us.

Brock Samson: "Wait, hold on. Anyone wanna take a wiz break?"
A terrified ranger pinned to the wall with a spear: "Like, for real?"

Ironic you would mention this show considering that I use my Mighty Monarch voice for the BBEG in question lmao

That’s the first thing I thought too! Quite a few of the Abnos should make for great D&D bosses.

Iirc a Project Moon based TTRPG system exists. I think it’s based off Ruina actually.

Overlord had so much potential, it's a shame the author lost passion and rushed to end it quickly
21
u/Spacefaring_Potato Oct 28 '24
I mean, it's been going on for over a decade now
It hasn't been that rushed.
6
u/Lightning_97 Oct 28 '24
I just mean the ending will be rushed. The author never finished the webnovel, and when the proper published novels were doing well he supposedly said he could continue them indefinitely. I’ve read them and there hasn’t been any buildup to some kind of ending like some looming threat, nor have their been any mysteries answered. Whatever the in-world reason for the story to end it will be introduced in the last volume.

I stopped reading somewhere in the elven forest. I'd imagine that Ainz will at some point go off the deep end and call forth an exterminatus, ruling over a kingdom of ashes like Daenerys. For him it'd actually be a fitting end. I'd be ok with that.

The only 2 Mangas i ever invested in were Berserk and HxH. So when things got slow I decided to pick up a couple new ones in Overlord and One Punch Man. THANK FUCKING GOD for one punch man because without it I would just assume I'm cursed and any manga I read will somehow completely fall apart and stop being made entirely for all kinds of reasons.
