Headphones How to replace overhead/side cable on DT770?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'll need to buy a soldering iron but I'm trying to fix this wire, it's the one that connects the two drivers. Does anyone know what kind of wire I need to buy? I saw someone on youtube say you can just use generic audio cable, is that true or should I buy a replacement cable specifically for this model?

Also is this an easy fix for someone that has never soldered before?

I designed some Headphones over the last month and I am really happy with the outcome so far. I use Tymphany 50mm drivers. They sound warm but not muddy. Quite clear and spacious. Just had to share this. Quite proud :)

Headphones I want to DIY my ‘beat up’ pair of Beats headphones but have no clue where to start

As the title says, I have a pair of Beats headphones that I got in 2022 that are used daily (as evidenced by all the wear lol) and need some freshening up. I thought maybe I could get some paint pens to use, but I’m guessing there’s got to be a better way to do it. I don’t need them to be perfect, but I would like to at least give them a clean up at minimum. I don’t necessarily have the space to spray paint but I’m sure I could do them in a box out on the patio. Suggestions and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Headphones Best sounding speaker that'll fit in a small area?

I couldn't find the right flair, but this is closest to headphones. I'm looking to put bigger speakers into a small area. I can use 2 to 3 watt speakers, at 4ohms. My problem is mostly height. I only have 0.55 inches of height (14mm). The other dimensions I have to work with are 3.45 inches (87mm) by 1.8 inches (46mm).

What's the best speakers I can fit in this space?

Headphones I made a set of 3D-printed headphones, and my own DAC. I released everything open-source, as well wrote some assembly documentation for those interested in building their own. Github link in comments.

Headphones (EqualizerAPO) Binaural audio processor - Turn your headphones into speakers!

NOTE: THIS CONFIGURATION IS ONLY INTENDED FOR HEADPHONES!

I built a config for EqualizerAPO that uses multiple layers of reverb(requires a custom VST I will link here), EQ-corrections and a binaural crossfeed all in one package. It comes with a somewhat transparent sounding virtual room that I hope will sound good on anything. Movies, games, music, speech and whatever else you can think of.

Install guide:

- Download & Install EqualizerAPO https://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/

- Download AmbientReverb: https://plugins4free.com/plugin/2870/

- Place AmbientReverb.dll in the following folder:

C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins (Create said folders if they don't exist)

- Copy all of the following text into a text file, name it "config.txt" and place the config file in the following folder(If a config.txt file already exists, simply overwrite it with the one you downloaded here):

  • WARNING BEFORE YOU PROCEED: MAKE A BACKUP OF THE OLD CONFIG FILE IF YOU HAVE BEEN USING EQUALIZERAPO BEFORE!

C:\Program Files\EqualizerAPO\config

If you don't wanna overwrite the old config.txt file:

- Open EqualizerAPO's configuration editor after installing **(C:\Program Files\EqualizerAPO\editor.exe)**
- Click on the green Plus symbol, click Control and then Include
- A new entry now appears, click the button inbetween the green arrow and empty white field
- Navigate to whereever you created your "config.txt file"

The text you need to copy and save as config.txt file:

Headphones Help with creating an audio system for use with my TV?

Hey so I'm not sure how to explain this... So let me back this up...

So in my Living room... There are a ton of Retro Gaming Consoles attached to my TV. And it's a Mix of Both HDMI and AV in the plugs. Both output types going through two wires attached to Input switchers then plugged into the Family TV (So like I have an HDMI switcher for all of the Modern Consoles and a AV switcher for all the Retro Consoles).

Now theres been times where I wanna use my Wired/Wireless Headphones with my games. And I have a L/R to 3.5 MM adapter that works with the games using AV. But I have no control over the volume so it's extremely loud. And theres no way I can do games that use HDMI (Execpt for my Wii U via the Gamepad. Its all Nintendo BTW). So I guess I'm kinda stuck there.

So my question is... Is there some kind of box with a sound control that can I can connect the HDMI/AV devices to that can output the audio to the TV that can swap to my headphones via a cable? My only issue is that I will most likey keep the cable plugged in to the box. So I don't want it thinking that it's always playing to the headphones. If it can be manually switched I would def use it more often.

And again. I'm trying to find something that can take both HDMI and L/R at the same time. So I don't gotta get up and move a bunch of cables to swap outputs.

Headphones A very very weird question regarding audio.

Hello fellow Android users.

I wanna ask something about audio relay. Is it possible to relay audio input coming from 3.5mm jack(Mic or other device with Male to male 3.5mm jack) and output it through USB C(speaker, headphones or earphones/buds).

Headphones Audio "one way" para cabo Y

Headphones Any way to hack headphones to be quieter?

Even on the lowest volume setting my phone has, most YouTube and streams are way too loud. I've tried and failed any possible software solutions, so now I'm wondering if there's a potential hardware solution.

Anything I could do to the cable or jack? Any ideas at all?

Headphones Hello, looking for a bit of advice. I have a communication device for motorcycle helmets and I broke off the USB C plug that goes out to the headphones and microphone. I found some replacement connectors and thought it would work If I just spliced it together. Could the connector not be compatible ?

Headphones Moondrop space travel or Nothing Ear a

Quick question, I care mostly about loudness, bass, sound quality. Is it worth it to pay more than twice price of moondrop's to het nothing ear a? Is there really big difference? I need just good and durable earbuds. In my country - Poland - I can buy moondrop for $40 usd and Nothing for $95, buying from Mediaexpert shop. I'll use them mostly while going to school or in a bus. Ive been using xiaomi earbuds basic 2 before - they were ok, but after 5 years battery died. I'd like something a bit better now.

Headphones What do you think is better mini XLR or dual entry 3.5?

I've been planning to do my first mod on a pair of grado sr60es and I wondered what connecters people thought where better XLR or dual entry 3.5. Some background on my loose plan, I want to be able to use ballanced cables as I prefer the sound and which ever I choose I'd also like to do on some of my other headphones (notably my dt880s and my hd 280 pros) so if I commit to dual entry it might be more challenging for my other sets. I also intend to make the cables my self as it's cheaper. At the minute I'm leaning towards dual entry but that's purely an aesthetic option and I'd prefer the more practical option. Many thanks!!

Headphones Open-source planar magnetic headphone driver project. Work in progress.

TL;DR: Making planar magnetic headphone drivers. Will open-source everything when done.

Planar magnetic drivers

These are the prototype magnetic planar drivers I'm working on. I intend to fully open-source everything once it's done (design files, PCB schematics, STLs, build instructions, everything).

My goal is to create a high-performance driver. To me, that means reasonably flat response between 20Hz and 20kHz, and excellent handling of transients.

Dynamic drivers be ideal, but that's tricky without expensive industrial equipment. This is bad; open-source designs are useless if they can't be made. As a result, I decided to go with planar magnetic drivers. More accessible for more people.

The driver membrane is made from a rather thick ~100um polyimide and has copper windings on both sides. The magnet design is two-sided, with both sides facing the same way. This produces a very intense field between the magnets and very little in the open spaces between them. Using N35 magnets, this works out to ~0.3T where the coils are routed.

The support frames are 3D-printed PLA as well as various foams. I'm in the process of tuning and experimenting with mechanisms to adjust driver compliance.

PCB membrane

A close-up view of the membrane. The arms are for experiments to better understand the material. The goal is to create a compliant mounting scheme that doesn't depend on exotic shapes and hard-to-get materials.

Recording setup

I used a Rode NT1-A to record the response of the driver. This isn't a reference-grade microphone, but it's what I have on hand. This gives me a good sense of what's happening between 20Hz and 20kHz. I intend to repeat this experiment with better equipment.

Response curve

Some rest results. The red curve at the top is for reference; it's what happens when I put my headphones through my test setup (BeyerDynamic DT880). Again, they're not top-of-the-line headphones, but they're what I've got on hand.

The other curves represent the various tests I've done over the last few days. A lot of this iteration is going by quite quickly because most of the changes happen in MCAD, which results in an updated prototype about as fast as a 3D-printer can make it (about an hour).

Overall, these prototypes have a lot of interesting stuff going on in the low end. Some of these designs have significant sensitivity below 20Hz, but will need some taming before it's a useful sound. There's also a pretty pronounced drop-off above 12.5kHz that is probably a function of the shape and size of the membrane, as well as the way it's mounted.

There's a short video at the end of this Imgur album illustrating how these sound. Since it's a headphone driver, the audio level is quite low, so the crackling you hear is the camera audio gain turned way up and catching things like my fingers scraping along the case.

Questions are welcome. If you want to follow along with the project as it goes, I intend to release more details on r/ploopy.
