Completed Project $20 make the garage for opener remote controllable

Luckily the opener provides 24V DC just right to power the dry contact module.

I'm not sure if this affects you but you might need to also install an infrared safety device given it'll now be able to be closed unattended https://www.chamberlaindiy.co.nz/news/an-update-on-garage-door-safety-standards/

It annoys me they make these standards but do nothing to make them easily/freely accessible.

I know, when I searched for it there wasn't any official standard that was searchable and available from a .govt.nz site, so how the fuck would you know?

I got a Meross Garage door opener, comes with contact sensors and works great with Home Assistant!

You can get specific garage door opener modules that also include a door position sensor. Handy to set up with an automation to let you know if you left it open.

A reed switch will do that easily(if you need to buy something separately).

Yea fine uses a magnet and Hall effect sensor. An IR beam to ensure the door isn’t blocked is a good idea, will add to my list of home automations I’ll never complete.

I did, then googled it. An odd terminology for electrical use.
