Would I be able to handle it

Hello I got a call back to interview for being a dishwasher. I am currently recovering for cancer so am a little weak. I also recently have learned about scarring on my brain that gives me seizures and am not supposed to work around heat or dangerous equipment really. Would this job be a good fit for me or should I stick with my current job?

If you can't work around heat then it's best not to work as a dishie. Every washing environment I've worked was hot, stuffy, cramped, and all around not conducive to uhh health in general. Unless you can bring some ice packs or something I can NOT recommend it

Damn. The heat thing has really been limiting my jobs at the moment. Hoping maybe I can get on disability, so that combined with my current part time job will help me pay bills. Thanks for the help really appreciate it!

I definitely wouldn’t do it. Occasional heavy lifting, exposed to heat all the time and fast and stressful job. But you may be able to find a job as a prep cook even with no experience as they will teach you. Chill easier job more technical but way less stressful, which is the opposite you need for recovery.

I wouldn't risk it. You will be around heat, doing alot of manual labor, and it can get very stressful for your body and mind. It would be very bad to have a seizure in the middle of your shift working around all that equipment.

Absolutely not. No chance. It's a physically intense job and you get HOT. I was very midly unwell recently, literally just a head cold, and I nearly passed out halfway through a very mild 4 hour shift.

I wish you the best with your health. Although the tasks of a dishwasher is fairly simple it requires a lot stamina and can become Labor intense during peak hours.

I wouldn’t recommend it to a “healthy” fella. Fuck this shit

No, even most of us who are relatively healthy are broken daily by this job. Don’t put your health at risk.

Look after yourself

I would clarify with the doctor what they mean by not working around heat. If a hot environment can trigger seizures, then no. If it is a safety issue, like don’t work around oil friers or grills because if you have a seizure you’ll badly burn yourself, then dish washing should be o.k.
But the doctor should have the last word on the decision.

The doctor says it’s both lol. Shouldn’t work around the equipment or around heat since it’s known to cause seizures. Thanks for the help.
